Silkie thread!

Can anyone show me the difference between a paint and a splash silkie? I have a chick that came in an order of blue silkies that looks splash and then bought some that started off white but now are feathering in with color and look completely different pattern wise then the first one! My camera ate poo and i don't have the money to buy a new one! Just curious!

OH and Blackie finally got his crow on about a week ago and and as of yesterday when i went out for morning feeding is doing the deed and a natural! LOL! He is such a sweet heart, not a mean little Brat like other breeds when they hit puberty!

Paints are very white with very black spots. Splash are white to light blue with dark blue to blue spots. They can sometimes look very similar.

Hi y'all! I'm enjoying all the pictures...so many beautiful birds out there, makes me want to get more silkies and it also makes me appreciate my big girls too. I have been paying too much attention to the chicks.

The Flock...missing a few girls that took the day off!

And my little princess.

Love that picture of your gorgeous white with the stuff animals!!

I just had my first silkie hatch last night from my fourth batch. I wasn't expecting any pips until tonight so it was a pleasant surprise. It was a little paint from CJ. But she has six toes! Ugh. Also they look a little curled. I am going to see how she looks this afternoon and whether I should make shoes for her feet to straighten them.

So the early hatch and the curled toes makes me wonder if my temp was off and a bit too high? When I went into lockdown Monday afternoon, I had 25 alive embryos. Please keep your fingers crossed for me! I see one more pip and am hoping for a lot more tonight and tomorrow.

ETA because she died right after I wrote this :(

I sure hope you have a good hatch!!

Hi!
I apologize in advance if this has already been covered. This thread is too long for a newbie to catch up on. :) If this has been covered and you can point me to a page or another thread, please do!
My question is this. Does anyone sell bearded silkie chicks that are sexed? My town won't allow roos.... :(

Thanks!!

You can't sex most bantams, and especially silkie chicks you don't have an idea until at earliest 2-3 months old on hatchery birds... if we could sex as chicks it would be SO much easier.

Some breeders do DNA on chicks for sex. It makes the chicks very expensive. Here is one breeder who does. http://amberwavessilkies.blogspot.com/
