Silkie thread!

I think My Pet Chicken sells sexed Silkies, check them out also....

They do, but last year, I read many tales of people buying from them and getting little boys instead! Unless you sex them by DNA, there isn't a sure fire way to do it, and you might still wind up with little cockerels.

Basel, perhaps you should just buy a couple of started birds (young adult) and go from there, it would be a lot safer if you can't have roosters.

@sanna ...She is a sweety.I got her from a hatchery. She was with a few others in a wire cage and i asked whats wrong with these? She said they were much older and she would sell them to me for a good price if I wanted them.So I ended up with all in the pen.To be honest I did not think she would be able to raise any more babies, but here we are....she even has a few adopted eggs I put under her that have hatched.

How old is she? She must really like sitting on eggs and raising babies.

Hello! First I'd like to say, awesome forum!

Next, I have a 6 week old silkie (I know it's just about impossible to sex them at this age, but I would really appreciate some oppinions) and I can't keep any roosters, so if this little fuzzbut is a boy sadly it will have to go. The sooner I can get a good idea of the sex the better because I'm already getting quite attached to the little thing.

Personality wise it acts like a girl, never puffing up or bumping chests with the other 3 chicks, it kind of keeps to itself until nap time when all the other chicks will lay on top of the it.

It's a really sweet bird, I would hate to have to give it away.

I am so excited. Our coop is about 98% finished. The kids are all out in the run now and if this rain holds off and we have just a little luck, they may be able to spend the night tonight!

The wide comb says boy but the behavior says girl. You might want to give it some more time.

MAN O MAN.... NOT GETTING ON FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS MEANS TONS OF CATCHING UP TO DO.... this thread is super busy! i've seen some beautiful pictures posted when i was away... ooo i just love looking at the silkie pictures !

but while i was away out of the 5 silkies that i've been wondering if they were going to girls or end up roo's my eldest Nugget (though not a full silkie) 5 months and 2 weeks LAID!!! eek! now i got two laying girls.

such a pretty little egg.... really little in comparison to my plymouth-Henny's egg...

... but i have a question, or perhaps some of you out there have experienced... my 2nd eldest-Peaches she 4 months and a week seems to be attached to Nuggets's hip...when nugget goes in the basket to lay peaches insist on perching on the basket or sitting right next to Nugget while she lays... could this mean that Peaches is indeed a pullet? or is it wishful thinking ...lol (1 down- 4 more to go ((hoping for all girls)) )
