Silkie thread!

@sanna...I never got an exact age more like 3 or 4ish.She just came out side the coop today with her babies.I loved watching them.Found myself spending about an hour sittig and watching everyone. :)

I do the same thing. I've spent hours outside with my chickens! I suppose I am easily amused.

Best candling is about a week to ten days. After that developing eggs get too dark to make much out, although candling right before hatching can yield some really cute sights of beaks poking into the air cell. If the egg smells rotten, it could explode. Most of the time, though, eggs don't go rotten unless something introduced bacteria.

Thought I'd share with the group my first bantams to my flock! Four silkies. One roo & three hens. Two fo the hens are pullets. Due to ordinances, if my neighbor complains I may have to get rid of my roo.

The roo & the older hen are the black with gold pencilling. I like the contrast. The two solid black ones are pullets.

I know I'm a little late on the candling. I was hoping I'd find some infertile eggs so we could throw those away and find out how many chicks we'll have, approximately.
I'm assuming the 'clear' eggs I found are the infertile ones.

I posted new pictures of momma and babies, and even a short video!!!

Prepare for cuteness!

That is ridicilously cute!!!

Just to share with the rest of the world; our eggs are starting to hatch!!! I just checked on them, I found two that are piping, one of the two already has a little crack on the shell. Lots of scratching noises going on in some of the other eggs.
I'm so excited I can't stand it! I feel like a kid in a candy store. lol

YOU STOLE MY ROOSTER!! LOL. My Roger looks like your roo.

And do I see that right? Are you using a rectangle planter as a feeder? That is BRILLIANT! I am so tired of my idiots scratching it out of them 10 pound hanging ones. They even manage to knock them apart! BUT THAT! I am betting that makes it real nice... Put a few landscape edgers in the bottom so they can't tip it. Cool!

I finally got a really nice picture of my silkie!!! I love this picture so much! I thought she was black, but you guys think dark blue. She sort of has a mix of all kinds of colors going on it seems. I love her so much, she is the best chicken. My daughter carries her around belly up and she loves it LOL. My 2y old carries her around and she loves that too. <3 <3 <3
