Silkie thread!

This is what I find so wonderful about the 4-H. Since this is a teaching experience, most of the judges do clear the aisle, but allow the 4-H'er in to listen to how his bird is being judged and they are allowed to ask questions during judging (well, once he's done). Otherwise, we can all stand on the next row and usually hear what he's telling his clerk and it was so nice, because even though we were an aisle over, he would speak up and hold the bird out and point out faults or good points.

This is just so much fun!!

I am so upset that we don't have a Cloverbuds in our county. My son was in 4H in NC, but here not until next year....

So Mr. Peach went back today was sad to see him go but seeing him happy not even phased made it a little easier. Brought home what I think is a girl... She's the same age as my pastries. I took everything you guys told me into consideration and pick what I thought and hope will be a girl lol no red in the comb what so ever not even a sign of any comb development really round and fluffy in the face... So crossing my fingers. Just not to sure of her color cause she looks black from afar but close up looking at her wing feathers sort of looks like the partridge markings same on her face above her eyes... Any ideas? I so wanted to get pictures of her but was to busy oooowing and awwwwing :D
But will post some as soon as I can.

By the way her name Cupcake :)

I miss my mr. Peach but heart my cuppy cake.... Makes it a little easier I suppose. If it was up to my non feathered babies we would have came home with 2 more lol...

Hi Hawkeye! My kids just signed up for 4H a few days so they can show our birds.
That's fantastic!!! You are going to have SO much fun!! Be sure that they do Showmanship, too! If you have a great poultry leader that prepares you all for Showmanship, that's great! But if not, I can certainly help you and tell you what the judge is looking for. Also-- flash cards are you friend! There is a lot of memorization work for it, BUT with the first year kids, the judges go a little easier on them, so no stress! The up side, is that you should just choose one bird to work with and stick with that bird so that you have everything about that breed, etc memorized.

Oh no, that's too bad! But at least you won't have a long wait, our registration starts in January to sign up for up coming projects. We have Cloverbuds here, which is great. This is my son's first year (7yr old) and he's also doing Foods and Rocketry. We're starting out easy. I was a 4-H'er when I was a kid. My dad raised beautiful White crested black Polish and that is what I grew up showing when I was a kid.

Thats a good idea. We actually have blue and splash silkies, plus blue quail belgian d'anvers, and some geese and ducks to show, but I'll make each girl stick to one breed of each, will that work?
