I love my silkies. I would like a silver plated partridge or silver partridge. Does anyone know if there is some chance I could get that from a partridge rooster with either a white or black hen? Do I need to buy a gray or silver chicken? There is a breeder on
ebay but he has showgirls in his silver partridge pens. It can get to negative 25 here, so I'd rather not have to worry about that exposed skin. I was wondering if I could breed them with what I have.
The solitary bird, Sophie, asking herself, "Where did all the blueberries go?"
This one I named Baby because she would always be under all the others when they slept in a huddle or in the corner. She was the first I found after a hawk attack got my white roo, Chester (named for the "perfect" cloning chicken in an Eureka episode), she looked like a tiny snowball and didn't move till I had picked her up and looked for signs of life.
She went broody before she even laid eggs, she happily adopted eggs I had hatching in an incubator. I let her see them hatching and she was like, "I want one of those, and one of those, and one of those..." She would call out to any baby chick that made a sound, I had to give them all to her to make her quite. I told her there was way to many of them and still she wanted to try.
I didn't have the heart to tell her she couldn't keep them all...I had to steal some of them back at night. If she saw me or someone else take one from her she jumped out of the box and came chasing after us...I won't ever doubt the mothering abilities of silkies. Well, at least not of Baby's.
I trim around their eyes, so most of them wouldn't look show quality even if they were, and I'm pretty sure they are no where's close to it...yet all are still dearly loved.
