Don't know if this is the correct thread for this, and we are truly newbies at raising chickens (but loving it!), so I've got to ask:
Where can one buy Silkies? Just a few, mind you! No more than four or five, and preferably females. We aren't looking to breed, just enjoy.
I am interested in High show quality !!If you are interested in pet quality rather then show quality - you can usually find people selling chicks on your local Craigslist. There are hatcheries that will sell 3+ chicks - but silkies are usually not sexed so you get what you get.
Ciao Lady chickadee, I want to ask you about your couple paints. Thanks thebutress, peepblessed, and mama2my4. I really enjoy my paints to. I have a adult pair and now have the little chicks. I just really like the paint color.
Ok someone suggested I try a silkie page to get your thoughts. These two are both blue colored, but one is lighter with dark wings and the other is all blue colored. Any ideas on colors? they are about 3 weeks of age?
How about my partridge ( or what I beleive is partridge. One has typical partridge colors and the other has spots and stripes with similar colors.![]()
My pair are both paints but I haven't hatched any of their chicks out yet.Ciao Lady chickadee, I want to ask you about your couple paints.
Are they both paints ?
Their chicks are they all paints ?
I wrote in the other post that the black-pigment diluting gene Blue (1 dosis Blue "Bl/bl+) is an intermediar Dominant gene which can give a coloration between the 2 extremes => Black (0 dosis Blue "bl+/bl+") and Splash (2 dosis Blue "Bl/Bl"). This means the coloration Blue you see on your chickens can go between very dark Blue (almost Black) and very light Blue (almost Splash). Can someone advise me on colors of these guys- what I believe are two blues, but one has dark wings, would that be lav or splash maybe? And the partridge both have black on wings with the buff but one has leapard prints and one doesnt. Anyone have comparison pics?
thanks- these guys are 3 weeks
