Thanks. Yes, I feel a tad guilty posting pretty well the ugliest pictures I have of him/her! He/she is really sweet actually [of course] and runs to my hand when I put it in their enclosure. He/she leans his/her little chest into my palm to be picked up and is so relaxed. Loves to be held and petted. Little sweetie.

So, here he/she is in a cuter picture. Thanks for all your help. Can't wait for his/her head and neck to fluff out more.

[PS--regarding sex, the beak angle looks female, and the chick walks 90% low in the chest. The below pix is an oddity-- standing a bit upright (something startled him/her hence my being able to take a clear photo!). Recently however, he/she got a bump on the middle of his/ her comb area which might signal male. ? I remember recently someone spoke of females having the little round bump there, not wide, but bumped out. ??? Any guesses??? ]

I have a hen that walks out like a cockerel. I wouldn't use that as a basis to determine gender. The comb does look like a nice little bump, but it could continue to grow or not. There's really no telling. Right now, it's just a guess. I have chicks that are nearly 3 months old and I'm still just guessing on them. Although, I can already tell pretty well on the ones that have a wide comb path-- even though there is no growth on their combs yet-- I can see the ones that are wide and flat will most likely be boys. The ones that remain narrow along the top of their beak most likely end up being girls-- UNLESS of course they don't! LOL Your chick seems to be pretty darned young to be getting a comb in. All of mine at nearly 3 months don't have anything yet. How old is that chick?

Thanks! Yes, it is all funny that birds are so elusive in showing their genders! Arrggggh. This chick is about 2 months old. Younger than yours. It's comb is all gray black without a hint of color [yet?]. I wouldn't say it's wide, actually, more skinny, or even in width to the beak, but it did "grow" this round bump about a week ago, so maybe a boy. ? It has confused me with its sex so far, lol. I have a black one that I am very sure is a girl [haha] and a white that I am sure is a boy, but a few in between that are very hard to guess at! Tho this one might be a boy with that bump...

I'm trying to learn and practice on these in preparation to my hatch of Garry Farm and CJ Silkie bubs in the incubator!

I hope it won't be too late for me to get to the store tomorrow for some vitamins. I gave it some Durvet Vitamins and Electrolytes in a dropper that I had. I also took him out of the cage and put him in a box with a towel and a towel over the top to create some darkness hoping it would sooth it. I can't believe all the junk that happens to chickens, all the stuff that can go wrong! Whew I just don't know about this...it's stressful to me :~/ LOL

I think the first year with chickens (yes I assuming these are your first) is the hardest and scariest. I did a lot of worrying and panicking too. It does get easier and I learned when to really stress and when thing were going to be ok.

Not sure if these are blue or splash. They are much lighter than my first blue I hatched a few weeks ago. Any ideas?

Their combs should stay a dark color-- almost black. You don't want them to be red. At two months, it still could be okay for being a girl. Just keep watching it.

Adorable! They are so fluffy and cute!! They are lighter, but I'd say splash.

Yes, that's what I thought. It has been like four weeks since I hatched the first batch and I had forgotten what color my Blue was at hatch. But all of this batch looked more silver at hatch. I am hoping for some splash so that is just great! Thanks!
