Silkie thread!

This is one of my silkies with some chicks that she hatched for other hens. She's a great mum!
I realize that giving your silkie a regular haircut probably counts as sacrilege in these circles... but all our chickens free-range and therefore need to see where they're going. They always become much more agile after visiting the chicken barber

so pretty .I am in the shenandoah valley of virginia with kin in toana just 12 miles from williamsburg, where are you?

Looks like a pullet to me too. Actually looks a little like my girl, her brown is much more muted though. My roo sports that pretty reddish brown though.
She looks just like my hen as well, and the father of the one above - has a very swept back crest, so this is not one of those cases where a boy could have a round crest (SQ roo) because mine isn't even close to SQ. This is his child..

Child.. But IT is crowing... Despite having the appearance of being a pullet. Does that make any sense?!

"The chicken boss" (my 4 year old daughter) has FINALLY made the decision to "allow" our coop to be ALL silkies! She decided that all of our big chickens needed to find new homes (3 EE's and 1 RIR) because they are just too big for her to carry around like puppies. So now we will be hatching another dozen silkie eggs. YAY! We have 10 right now and even hubby is on board. I swear, these silkies have magical powers!

Sometimes, hens crow too. Its crazy, but true! I have heard that some silkies crow one day and lay an egg the next. So, its possible.

Someone posted about where they got leg bands. The ones that are kind of spiraled and grow with the birds. I can't for the life of me remember what online store it was? I hope that person remembers who they are and can post the website again. I don't really want to go back that far in posts, but I will if i absolutely have to.

Thanks!
Kim
I would love to know about this too!! My kids are always saying to put leg bands on them. That way we can tell some of them apart.
