Someone please tell me if this is a crazy idea. I have a lone lavender ameraucana bantam (who is finally feel better yay!) she came with a buddy but I'm 90% sure he's a roo so I'm going to rehome him. I was thinking of keeping her with the splashes she grew up with even when they are adults and laying eggs. For some reason eating silkie eggs seems gross to me but thinking of eating Peepers little blue eggs don't bother me as much.

Anyhow would there be a problem I'm not thinking of by keeping all of them together. I figure it would help the numbers of hens versus roos instead of have one roo over 3 hens it would be one over four. I'd hatch out the silkie eggs but keep the ameraucana eggs for consumption. Easy enough to tell the eggs apart right?

Besides what does silkie x ameraucana equal? Easter egger? Maybe a silkied easter egger on occasion idk....

Hey glad to hear your little one is doing better. and why wwould there be a problem keeping the little bantam in with the silkies. sounds like a good idea to me.

I couldn't think of a problem because I'd be able to tell their eggs apart pretty easily. I know that mixing colors isn't ideal with the silkies because you can't tell the eggs apart. Just wondering if someone had thought of a reason that I hadn't of why that might be a bad idea.

I'm looking for a few silkies, I live in Placerville, California.

I'm not sure how many varities there are and I'm still learning. My mother had a few when I was growing up. This is the only breed she'll let me have if I get chickens again (had bantams before) I dont mind though on this limit she's set since I love them!

I raise rabbits and at a show yesterday I met a lady who raises chickens and said she had a Silkie egg in her incubator. I hope to get a small group going. Maybe up towards 6 - 10 birds. Depending on how big I build the Coop. I will collect the eggs and use them, If I get any hens
