Had to share this pics with you guys! I thought it was too cute! This is my Blind Girl and apparent new boyfriend. They are both about 4 1/2 months old.
I thought it was so cute! I will be posting some more of my silkies shortly.
Someone please tell me if this is a crazy idea. I have a lone lavender ameraucana bantam (who is finally feel better yay!) she came with a buddy but I'm 90% sure he's a roo so I'm going to rehome him. I was thinking of keeping her with the splashes she grew up with even when they are adults and laying eggs. For some reason eating silkie eggs seems gross to me but thinking of eating Peepers little blue eggs don't bother me as much.
Anyhow would there be a problem I'm not thinking of by keeping all of them together. I figure it would help the numbers of hens versus roos instead of have one roo over 3 hens it would be one over four. I'd hatch out the silkie eggs but keep the ameraucana eggs for consumption. Easy enough to tell the eggs apart right?
Besides what does silkie x ameraucana equal? Easter egger? Maybe a silkied easter egger on occasion idk....

I'm working to cross silkie with bantam blue-laying eggers. Have goals in mind! But curious: why do you think silkie eggs are gross? They are closer to white than egger eggs, just smaller. Like quail-egg size.
BTW: No more silkies (or eggers) have died since last week! I'm thinking we're over the hump. My kid and I banded all of them on Saturday and I'll start recording notes about each. Even tho they are only a week old, some of the eggers are starting to fly up to a roost that's about 3 inches off the ground. And I think someone forgot to tell my silkie babies that they aren't supposed to fly, because they sure are trying!

I can't really tell you why lol probably because they are so fuzzy and cute totally different personality to my ameraucanas. My ameraucanas are sweet don't get me wrong just not lap chickens like the silkies. We'll see how I feel when I actually start getting some eggs
