She was born either the 26th or 27th. That's crazy!Def, when was yours born? Mine hatched the 28thish.....
I'm pretty sure her PA is paint. I think the cooler the eggs are kept (40-70 degrees) the longer life they have. Usually 11-15 days. I'm actually doing a bit of a test on that myself right now. I have almost two dozen of my own eggs in the bator and some are nearly 2 1/l2 weeks (I was waiting on my best hen to lay more) They are all dated so we'll see what develops. My kitchen stays between 65 and 75 where they were stored. Not the perfect temp.
I can answer at least part of your post since I also hatched Catdance eggs. Yes, B/S is from the Blue/Splash pen. I got one blue from my blue/splash that hatched. PA is actually how she marks her PAINT eggs. But as Karen told me, the paints don't breed true so you never know what you'll get. From my paints I got a blue and a Partridge! Porcelain I believe was marked with a single P. I didn't get any Buff eggs so I don't know how they're marked.
Congrats - hope you have a fantastic hatch! And no, you're far from being the only wacko - just look around!
That is sooooo cute!!!![]()

Me????
This is Edgar, the blue cuckoo. Its not the best picture, but his head gear is pretty hard to miss! I think he's about 9 or 10 weeks old.

Thank you! I'm pretty proud of themhe has no red, he's a nice, even shade of blue (besides the barring). But his comb and wattles are pretty prominent and he's got thats swept back look. I'll keep an eye out for red, but that white cuckoo roo was in her BBS pen, so I don't think any will show. I've seen cuckoo Silkies before, so I was surprised this one had nice dark skin and a darker comb and wattles then I'd seen on the black and white cuckoos. I'd never know there was such a thing as a white cuckoo, and I bought him because he was the only chick she had that looked different from the others. I'll try to get some pictures of him when I get home!![]()
Just too cute!!!![]()

Thanks Hawkeye youve seen me post the roo on here before he is the one I have for sale for 10.00. this pair has thrown about 30 chicks before I pulled him from my program because he has red combs and wattles , so far only one chick has shown this. All the30 chicks have awesome feet, wings, crest except for 2 so far . Ive also bred him to a partridge hen I had before. I only have 5 of his chicks left that im keeping to see how they turn out. the roo and the 2 hens were only pet quality.Very cute! I would hope no one would tell you they were ugly. They will be wonderfully sweet birds, I'm sure. They all seem to have a fantastic attitudes.
I think your chick is really amazing and I'm VERY surprised that it came out of that bird posted above. I have no idea what to say about that! LOL It's not a bird I would suspect would ever throw something like that. I don't know that it would continue to throw chicks like that. How many chicks have you hatched from that mama bird? If you are getting only a small percentage of super nice birds, I'd say it's time to retire her and use one of the really great looking chicks you have gotten. You didn't say what rooster you are using, but I was told by another show breeder (not on here) that roosters are usually responsible for the female's crests. So that chick may not have much to do with the hen as much as it has to do with the rooster. Also, it's a proven fact that by hand selecting the best birds, you get even better birds. Select for large crests and you get better crests, etc, etc. This is why you will hear over and over breeders being very picky about feet, wings, etc... because those traits do pass on. Birds that don't have what you are looking for won't pass on traits you want. Or IF they do... I'd say it's a fluke and in any given situation, you have the odds as with any gamble-- it may work out or it may not. If you have stacked your chances with the right birds, the chances of the traits appearing that you want are more likely to happen. So yeah, I'd retire your mama and work with the chick you got, it looks fantastic. Just check for split wing, and you should be good to go!I'd be interested in seeing what your rooster looks like since that can be a big contributor for the crest.![]()
Thanks so much for your imput. the chick Angelica is so far one of my favorites . But her brother salty dog is my pocket chick because he is so sweet and loveable.. Im looking for a nice white Roo to breed her to. I cant wait to see what she will have.I guess that just goes to show dont give up on your UGLYS lolIf it was me I would wait and see what kind of babies the 4 month old will throw out. She may not throw out such nice babies as the mama. I am thinking skipping a generation gene thing. You are right Suggie's babies are very nice.
