Oo Oo! Oh KMH, if you take a field trip to their places, may I tag along? I'd love to see their Silkies and set ups in person, expecially Karen's. Not that I can do any breeding here in the city but you never know what the future holds - maybe someday I'll figure a way!
the way you breed in the city is wait till your girls are laying and get a roo and when the neigh(bore)r's ccomplain by then your girls should be broody

Guess he doesn't understand that, sometimes, that is the first sign of any problems. Seeing issues, in the dog poo, has saved me a lot of vet dollars, I can tell you!!!d

Sheila :)
Very true, healthy poo...healthy animals. Inspect the poo people!

Of course! I would love the company. But you don't want to drive all the way up here do you? But I could definitely pick you up on the way down to Karens. I just have to contact her first. Lol! I guess that would be the first step.

And I don't remember who asked about nipple waterers, but I use them and the Silkies do just fine. I am going to use in tank water heaters, The ones you get at the pet store, to keep them from freezing on those 3 REALLY cold days we have here in the PNW. Lol!

this is my first silkie. i bought him yesterday i was told he was 6 to 8 months old. he is crowing but not really spures just bumps. how can i tell is he is bearded, and i give $8 for him is this a good price. he loves to be held. he is as tame as anything can get.

Question for those with lots of broody Silkies...
I have a 5 month old pullet, 10 month old pullet and a 2 year old hen, all laying. They have a dog house that they are SUPPOSED to lay in but of course they choose to lay their egg in the middle of their run, in their food dish, basically everywhere but the dog house.... They do go in the dog house throughout the day and some sleep there at night til I put them to bed in the big coop. My question is: If I start leaving eggs in the dog house, is there a chance one of my girls will go broody?

Also, none of my Silkie eggs are fertile, even though my roo does his job with all the girls... If I trim the fluff around his rear and on the girls too, will that help?
We started using this cat litter container for our non-silkie pullets who are just starting to lay. We bought it at PetCo for $28. I really like this...the lid lifts right off so there is no need to squat down to the floor to peer in for eggs. The lid is domed, so none of the hens roost or poop on it. We are planning to use one of these with our silkies also.

$8 is a good price for a sweet and gentle pet silkie. Now you just have to pick out a cute name for him! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
