Silkie thread!

It's just past 10:00 pm here in California and I have an incubator full of eggs and waiting for the power to go off as we got a notification from the power company. When it goes off I will hook up the batteries. I wish they had picked a more convenient time. ;)   Anyway I thought I'd share some pictures I took of a lavender chick I have to sell here locally. I hate to sell it, such gorgeous foot feathering but it has very obvious split wing. It is four weeks old today and even though a very awkward age, it looked so pretty in the spring filaree I thought you all would enjoy it. If I didn't already have so much eye candy, I would just keep it!

Did you sale this one already? Or did you wait out and see how the feathers filled out?
Don't you think it was just to small and needed to fill out? Or you seen something that I dont know to look for on mine :) LOL

Oh boy, that sounds like what they could be. I'm going to Fowl Fest here in MI in October and plan to get some opinions where people can actually see them...although these pictures caught the color pretty well. Is this something I should try to cull out of my flock? Could these been shown?

Actually many people try to get the silver gene into their whites, silver based whites (1 gene not double though) are more vibrant and less likely to sunburn and turn yellow from corn/feed
when they are double gened and as dusky as yours they show them AOV as Pearl

Oh ok, cool. So breeding him back to my whites will possibly help make my whites "cleaner"? My hens are good looking but I did notice my white roo has a little yellow. Is this something you would use for breeding or do you recommend I cull them from the flock? I like the way that silkie roo is looking (can't see it in the picture but he actually has decent type, in my opinion anyways lol) and would like to show him this fall. Good to know I can show him AOV...Can AOV go on to win breed or is it only allowed to compete within' AOV?

Okay so I have a few questions. I hatched out a few silkie babies and out of some of the eggs labeled paint I got black babies. I know this is normal, however my question is will these babies carry for the paint gene? Also I hatched out a few cuckoo eggs. How long will it take for me to see the barring. Right now they just look like blue/black babies.

LOL

I sold it. It had very obvious split wing. It was really pretty though!

Is it better to have bearded or non bearded silkies. What does it change far as value and desirability at sales
My comment on the above is that the choice is personal. For me I prefer a bearded fowl over a non-bearded in any variety of bird in which both bearded and non-bearded exist. I like the bearded look and the fact that having beards decrease the size of wattles.

White 1) These first two pics are the same bird. I think her crest is a little small? Oh and there is my pyrenese.

White 2)

White 3) I think her crest is too big. I think she gets it in the water when she drinks because sometimes it is and sometimes it ain't.

White 4) She has a little buff on her chest and head as you can see. I really like it.

I think overall there tails are a little small and the backs are a little long just from my looking at other pics and comparing. I am trying to learn! LOL!! All opinions are welcome.
I didn't get reviews for my girls so I thought I would repost it. Thanks in advance.
