Silkie thread!

Its about 95 where I'm at right now, so everyone is panting. I just did a second water change for the day because of the temp. I'm about to go pick up a watermelon for them. I can get better to pics up in a few minutes. The SG roo she came with has amazing toe feathers. Thanks Peep!

Hopefully you will get a showman's opinion, but I can tell you she has very nice type, good crest and tail. I can't tell anything about her foot feathering or whether or not her toes are correct. The spread wing looks good but she carries her wings too low. Possibly it was very hot that day.

As promised, Thelma's feet, they are kinda dirty, you have been warned...

There is a toenail on that foot, it just blends in really well...

Yes. I am looking at adding two pullets to my current flock, the majority of which are LF. We did a hatch this spring and only one silkie (male) made it. You can see my mix in the signature line. Mostly, the flock kind of ignore Birdie (the one silkie). My one concern is that this winter he is going to get cold by himself as he is the only non-roosting bird, plus, I feel like he is lonely. Everyone else has someone of their breed but he is alone..
I would wait until they are old enough to defend themselves. What I would do is put them in the same coop but separate them with wire so they can see and hear each other but not get to each other. After a week or two of that exposure, I would let them into the run (or out to roam if you free range your birds) all together. If they do okay, you can slowly increase their time spent together until they are together all the time.
That's what I did with my LF when I added new Silkies. I have Prod Reds and they aren't the nicest to new birds but they did fine after a week of being exposed to each other through wire.

Thanks for the reply. That is pretty much how we merged our hatch this spring in with our reds. We had some rough treatment at first but now only the Cockrels are getting the rough treatment from the hens.

I have one cockrel that I want to rehome before I add any new girls. My silkie boy isn't even acting like a boy except sticking his nose into a fight. he never starts one, just likes to kind of stop them.

I appreciate the response. my daughter really wanted the silkies and we were disappointed in our low hatch rate. Hopefully I can add a couple of fluff balls soon.

My last comment was about the beautiful buff pics that 1chicken fan posted. Such a clean, lovely buff. Mine tend to have a little brown in their tails :
