Silkie thread!

I have one metal/wire crate but a bunch of medium to large plastic crates that I can use. The larger plastic crates have a wire door and vent holes on the side but not the back... I will try to get some photos of what I have and where in the trailer I want to put them...
Those plastic ones sound exactly like my own.

Like the blue ones. Those would be the most comfortable ones, as they block a lot of light and wind. I can fit quite a few birds in them as well. My two hens raised 13 babies to six weeks in one crate (open, but they all fit in very easily).

Alright... Photo overload.

1) Ignore the dogs, they won't be in there with the chickens...

2) This one is the same size as the plastic one above.

3) This one is slightly smaller than the wire one in 1st photo.

4) This is one of my broody pens, its wire all around, the wooden box beside it is an old chicken transport box that I have used to transport short distances.

5) This is another broody pen I have, wood on the sides and back with wire on the front.

And this is the trailer's goose-neck area where I would like to put them...

Sorry for the long post... Here is a silkie pile to make up for it.

could you make it so all your birds could run around in the goose neck

not a good idea, its best to keep them confined, it will keep them calmer and less risk to injury or stress.

the kennels should be PERFECT. i might would suggest if you have the room put a bale of straw or pine needles up against the front where there may be alot of drafts OR throw blankets or something over the tops and back of those kennels that will be closest to that front wall and have the 'doors' facing into the body of the trailer. Will be perfectly fine JSP

oh also, bedding use straw or thick layer of pine needles in the kennels, will add warmth and good gripping for their feet and a bit harder for them to throw around/out than shavings.

I would just throw a couple of chunks of cucumber into each crate during the trip. It will supply them with a source of moisture that can't be spilled.

We used to fly and drive around the country each year with my son's rabbits to the national conventions. A piece of fruit, usually apple, was all we supplied to them for the trip.

I bought a hen that was sitting on 11 eggs for around a week. I brought her home and she was off the eggs about 2 hours maybe less. I put her back on them in my nesting box she started back sitting. What's odds of them hatching?
