Whenever your girls start let me know. Im waiting on my young pullets I hatched out last year to start. There around 7 months now. I did find a pullet egg in the coop the other day, with some blood on it, but nothing since. Wonder who it was.
Im just hatched out 9 babies yesterday. There looking good. I also put in a dozen on wednesday, and candled today and all are growing.
Im using two new boys this year. One is from Sassy Silkies, that I hatched out last May, hes paired with the hens I used last year. And so far the chicks hatching out look great from him. Then im using a Sassy Silkie hen (also hatched last May) paired with a nice boy I hatched last year. Cant wait to see what she produces with him.
Awesome! I want to do a few test hatches before I get to selling eggs. Wanna trade and be a test hatcher for me? I would love to mix your line in with this one! Southernbelle and Lauralou are my other testers. I figure the three of you ought to give me a good sampling of how my packaging holds up and how they will hatch out.
I moved them into their lovely new home this evening. There was the requisite grumbling and complaining, but they'll be fine.
I put a fake egg in the nest box earlier today and sat Pumpkin in to give it a test run. She sat there on that plastic egg all the world like she knew what she was doing. Maybe that's a good sign.

Featherbaby- these guys came from Jack Ferguson in Knoxville. We met up at the silkie national meet in Lawrenceberg and he brought me 6 babies. Three turned into boys and three into girls. I sold one of the boys to a local BYCer about a month ago. Jack's buffs took Reserve National, I think. I can't remember exactly. They placed though. His whites did as well. All of his silkies were GORGEOUS!!! I don't think he ever sells eggs and he seldom sells chicks. I think I was just really whiny and caught him at a good time.
He took pity on me and sold me these babies. They are so sweet, even the boys. They are a little froot-loopy, but hey, they're silkies!
So I can't take any credit for these guys. It is all Jack's breeding. I was just lucky enough to buy them. I'm hoping to work on breeding a clear, dark buff starting with this core flock.
I like Basil's shape the best. Sage is a really nice color though. He has blue tips in his tail, but he is clearly darker all over than Basil. Basil does have a lovely shape and he is larger than Sage. He is also clear in color. Basil is at the moment the leader of the pack. He and Sage do a half-hearted chest thumping every now and then. Mostly they pal around with each other. I'm guessing though that Basil is the dominant roo. We'll see what happens when Sage finishes filling out.
I'll try to get pictures of the girls tomorrow. Sweet Pea is really dark, but she has black wing tips and tail tips. She is the sweetest of the lot though. She'll sit up on my lap and just mutter at me. I'm not exactly sure what she is telling me, but she's chatty.
I have a hard time telling Pumpkin and Petunia apart. I leg banded them, but you can't see the leg bands for the feathers. Oh well.

Silkie Envy............ I have my fingers crossed so my Chick-N-Law gets all PULLETS!
to the Silkie God..... My boy is doing good! He crows all day long. So, of course the other 5 have to chime in. He sounds so cute though. I laugh every time I hear him. As cute as it sounds though, hopefully none of yours will CROW!

I can't wait to see your new babies!
I would like to be a test hatcher, but it depends when she starts laying. All of the incubators are full right now, and I have about 3 dozen more call duck eggs to put in and another dozen silkie, and then almost a dozen pekins.
Im gonna be busy when these guys hatch. Plus in 2 weeks I have about 14 goslings that should hatch.
Then the mandarin girls just started 2 days ago, so the bators will be full for a while.
No worries. There is no rush. They aren't actually laying yet and I figure it will take a bit for the eggs to get up to size anyway. I'm figuring sometime in the summer. We can figure out timing as we go.
Your bators sound like mine. I've got 9 olive eggers (ameraucana + welsummer) going, along with 9 ameraucana eggs. One broody (a tee-tiny little OEGB) is valiently covering two ameraucana eggs. Two ameraucana broodies are covering a total of 9 ameraucana eggs. I'm about to be covered up with chicks. That doesn't include the 2 ameraucanas, 8 barred rocks and 7 easter eggers that are currently in the brooder!
I saw her and just about flipped!!! I think I may know someone who will definitely want her...not that I don't...but with vacation coming up I'm going to have to pass this time
