I started with some from a local exotic sale way back in either 2003/2004. Picked up some better ones in 2007. They were too old of birds and sooo extremely typey that I ended up with 3 chicks out of them total. All turned out to be cockerels of course. Scrapped that whole project again. In 2009 I picked up another pretty decent pair and started from there again.

These are some of the current ones I'm working with...
The cockerel I held back from last year:

Not sure if anyone remembers my incubator dilemma, but two weeks ago yesterday my incubator went kaput with eggs on day seven. I wasn't sure what to do, but the next day I was able to add them to my father in laws incubator. I didn't really think the eggs would be good. They went a while without heat. Some of you suggested I not give up on the eggs. I came home from work today, and one had already hatched. The nosy side of me had to check out the other eggs. You can hear them pecking and chirping inside!!! Guess I'll have some more pretty soon. Thanks for ya help BYC'ers

I'm hoping my first 18 in the bator aren't dead now since I had an incubator snafu as well. I should have calibrated my wiggler thermometer beforehand and I didn't. I did on day three and found out the reading was off two degrees! So instead of being between 99.5-100.5 my wiggler was really at 101.5-102.5!! Crap-o-la right? I pulled two out and candled and they were starting to show some veining so I still have hope

I'm still on the fence about working with buffs. Some of the Kelar eggs I just bought are supposed to be buffs and I have a few coming in another package of eggs soon. Can't decide if I should sell my chicks (if they hatch) or figure out how to house another color group... So far I have planned a White pen, a blue/splash pen and a black lav split/lavender pen. Buffs seems like a lot of work to add to the mix since I hear they are hard to get right and they take a long time to see how their coloration is going to end up.

In the context most commony used amongst american silkie breeders, it would be a silkie imported from the Netherlands. Many of the paints and reds are of Dutch origin. Type is a bit different than in American silkies--in general, shorter feathers, smaller crests, less "S" shaped. The reds are more of a pure red rather than the red columbian of US red silkes; also mahogany is far more evident in them.

However, it could be a silkied dutch, which is an entirely different breed, just exhibiting silkie feathering.

OK WHAT IS A DUTCH?

A very small bantam:

Not to be a post hog lol but...

Does anyone go by the name "Showtime Silkies"? I don't show *yet* but I was thinking of reserving the domain name in advance for future use. Seems kind of silly to try and go by any name involving showing just yet, but 6 months from now when I can actually start showing I'd like the name if it's not taken
