Silkie thread!

Sophia is a beautiful buff. But, if she were a cocker spaniel she would be a red. I'm always surprised that silkie people don't use the term'red'. The redder ones are called dark buffs. Well to each his own.

I think there are folks working on reds or "gingers". I happen to love the deep rich reds. They remind me of the chestnut color in horses.

LUUUCCCYYYYYY ~ Love her coloring and a great name for her. Hard to see but the other two almost look like they have some sizzle or frizzle in them but I'm sure they don't it's just my eyes, LOL Nice, are they getting along alright with the others? Did you have to keep them seperate for a while incase of diseases? I didn't do that my first time I guess I was lucky I didn't wipe out my silkies.

It's not too late to quarantine them. It's better to be safe than sorry.
All the chickens are getting along nicely. First thing our crabby rooster did was chase the new girls around, of course. But that ended quickly. I went and checked on all of them a little while ago, they're all in their coop sleeping. Cochins mixed with everyone. Two roosting with the silkies, the blue hen in a pile on the ground with the chicks and some hens. lol

Of course I didn't think to quarantine them..

They do have their little bands on their legs, so they have been tested for diseases. I think I'll go separate them tomorrow just to be sure.

I've got no money : ( But I'll look on cragislist for free stuff, Right now I got the little guys in side in a smallish box, Don't roosters when they are small about 3 -4 weeks have a certain shape to them? I have RIR rooster too, I was hoping I could get the chickens to bond to the chicks in 30 days cause I heard about the Quarantine thing ffor 30 days. I will figure out how to fix the coop too, since the tornado the back wall got pushed from the ceiling nothing can get in but yeah.
You might want to try freecycle.com. Also, search around your house/garage for anything that can be repurposed. You could even use your feed bags as dividers...just cut and staple in place. I've read many of the coop threads here on BYC, and it is amazing the innovative ways people recycle things for use with their chickens. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

So I have looked through about 30 pages so far. Glad I found this thread. I have realized , when I bought the birds ... They were all undernourished. They have been with us for almost 2 months and they have grown greatly. Glad to know she is much healthier.

Now we r seeking a white Silkie this spring.

So, I almost forgot! I don't know how I could have forgotten to tell everyone the good news! lol
I picked up my two birds from the fair today and they both got a blue ribbon and $10.00 each.

I just don't know how it was possible that they both got first place. There were much nicer birds out at the fair. How do these birds get judged anyway?? There were so many silkies that got first place. Does it go by color and gender? That's the only reason I can think of that would make sense they ended up with blue ribbons.

I had such a stresful day, it was so nice to bring these two back home with $20 in my pocket, two blue ribbons AND a double rainbow that showed up in the sky as I was walking out of the fairgrounds.
Here they are!
