Silkie thread!

I couldn't help myself, I went and got 3 Cochin hens today!

A partridge, splash and a blue. They're all about a year old.

There they are with our silkies.

This one I named Lucille because of her red "hair". She's my favorite. lol

Lucille meeting Joe. Those turkies next door were very scary.

I think this one was called Kayla, so I'll keep the name. Molting badly. I don't know if she's any kind of a quality bird, probably not. I'll haveto go and read more about Cochins. But she's cute! haha

And the blue hen, Juliette, I didn't get good pictures of her. This makes her look hideous. Not sure what kind of quality this one is, hoping she'll turn out nice when she's done moulting.

Sorry about the non-silkie pictures but couldn't help but share this with all you chicken enthusiasts!

Now I need to go find the Cochin thread.

Hey all, I was wondering if any of you are going to the Sussex county Poultry show in NJ in October... I was hoping to get a few more silkies or even chicks at the show and you all have such beautiful birds:) Thanks!!

They are pretty~ My name is Kayla~

I let my two little silkie chicks free range one at a time, and my rooster chased him/her, they all wanted to peck the lil guy, what am I going to do when it's time to move them out to the coop? Any tips and tricks to keep them from being mean?

Also, I am trying to figure out weather their both girls, or both boys, or girl or boy. I am shooting for two girls. My rooster is a RIR btw. and I can't get anyone to build a new coop and I can't do it on my own due to back problems. Anything I can do???
I tried to put my first chicks I got with my older hens too early and since they were smaller than them the hens had a field day. I had to rescue them out of the coop and bring them back inside for another month so they could get almost as big as them. It was tight quarters in my rabbit cage in the house but it worked. When I put them out there again the hens didn't look at them as hen bait again. They still "growl" at them but no attacking like before. You may want to try letting them get bigger away from the others. Cindy

Can you divide your coop to keep the silkies separate and safe? You could use anything from inexpensive bird netting sold in the garden department at Home Depot ($10), to vinyl lattice (with the small holes $30), to a piece of cardboard (free at Uhaul). You could also find a dog crate or dog kennel at a yardsale or on Caigslist to use as a temporary coop.

LUUUCCCYYYYYY ~ Love her coloring and a great name for her. Hard to see but the other two almost look like they have some sizzle or frizzle in them but I'm sure they don't it's just my eyes, LOL Nice, are they getting along alright with the others? Did you have to keep them seperate for a while incase of diseases? I didn't do that my first time I guess I was lucky I didn't wipe out my silkies.
