Silkie thread!

Thank you! I'm looking for show quality, and I'm hoping there's a few good quality ones there that speak to me. I'm going to be getting at least 4, hopefully all hens because I can't have roosters where I live. They will be at least a week old, maybe less.
if i where you i would buy about 10 them sell the roosters because at that age there hard to sex and most breeder well not sell just hens once there sexable

NPIP testing won't show all the diseases they could be carrying, not to mention lice and mites! By tomorrow will be too late, so I would just hope that they don't really have anything! I ended up with lice because the the woman I got my last chicken from failed to mention her little "problem" in her flock.

ALWAYS expect that there could be issues; do NOT expect that the breeder KNOWS that there is a problem. If you have more than a handful of animal, things like parasites HAPPEN. You treat and deal with it. Sometimes the first treatment is not completely effective, so you re-treat. And then you may treat again...and again. It is not something that ever "goes away."

NPIP is nothing more than salmonella..NOTHING MORE. NPIP has nothing to do with the most common diseases of poultry; only with those that can easily be transmitted to humans via eggs or meat!
I did check the new girls for lice and mites very thoroughly, couldn't find anything. I am a little paranoid about those little critters after my birds had lice two years ago. The paranoia started when I found one crawling on my arm.

So I'm hoping the Cochins are clear of all critters and I didn't miss any. I'll keep checking on all of them just to be sure.
Other than that, the birds looked healthy but of course that doesn't mean anything. I will learn from my mistake, and next time when I bring new birds to my flock, I will be sure to quarantine them first.

That is so great!! I love your photo!
Thanks!

New babies! I think the top one looks just like a poodle. The second one is a very funny color--is that porcelain maybe? Not sure what color the third one is. I have to check, but I'm pretty sure it came out of a painted pen. They are one day old in the pics.

I GOT MY FIRST PAINT CHICK!

Sorry, I was excited. This is my third time to incubate paint eggs, in the past I've gotten whites, silver partridge and a couple of "off" colors. I locked down 24 silkie eggs and two of my own lakenvelder eggs. Last night when I when to bed, I had a Lak and a blue silkie (BBS eggs), with eight more pips.

This morning I woke up to the Lak and 7 silkie chicks, two of which are paints!!! There are still six more pips this morning (eggs were due today).

Pictures after the hatch is over and everyone has fluffed up.
