Yes! Hatch more! lolI'm down to 8 after re-homing a bunch of surplus cockerels. I obviously have to do some hatching!!!![]()
I don't think other chicken breeds normally "pile up". I have 3 Cochin hens in with my silkies and I have found my blue hen in a pile with the silkies several times. Maybe she wants to be a silkie. lolSo after reading about your silkie piles Im wondering are they the only chickens do that? Just sounded like it as everyone refered to them as silkie piles not chicken piles LOL
That's a good one!I really am convinced they are all going to freeze to death because the pile isn't big enough ....![]()
Do you have a heat lamp for them? I would imagine, without one, a lonely silkie would get pretty darn cold in Maine.I just thought of something. I have the 3 12ish week old chicks, but I keep forgetting about the hen I have that I got this spring. This is her first winter with me and she is with the big girls and is the only silkie. She doesn't sleep with the others. Is she going to make it in Maine not huddled with the others? I want to eventually move her in with the other 3 silkies, but they're still just half her size or a little more. Do I need to move her in sooner and hope for the best?

How old is your hen? I have all my chicks in with my adult silkies, roosters and all. The chicks are about 2 months old now. But, the hens hatched the chicks so that must make a slight difference.I don't in there. I was advised not to put a heat lamp in bc if electricity is lost, you'll lose the chickens. I don't know what to doDo you think it would be too much to put her in with the other 3? is she going to kill them?
Thank you..I am hoping they are girls too.Welcome Rob! Silkies are definitely addicting![]()
