Silkie thread!

When I checked his wings today, there are no gaps of missing feathers but they feel different, almost like they have a twist to them or something.  He was free ranging with turkeys and a lot of lf were I got him from. I don't know what he was being fed or anything else. I can try a hatch from him and check the chicks wings and go from there, I'm not sure I even want to keep him but I don't have anything else to put with my black girls but my Colombian roo or my red partridge and I really want black chicks next spring.
Test him out. If you saw my pictures a few pages back, you'll notice my pullet had very loose wings until week 19. Now they are tight and very nice.

Also notice that my really old Delaware hen has some twisting in her shafts. Could it be something with age? Do you know how old he is?

I was told he was a year old but I'm not sure. His spurs are huge. I only wanted the girls and ended up buying them and 2 boys and the other boy didn't make the trip home. The one that didn't make it had been attacked and I felt sorry for him so I brought him home, he was a lighter blue and was the same age as the girls I got. I have a few young chicks that I'm not sure about sex yet, if one of my blues is a boy I might get rid of him. My silkies are just pets, I don't show but I still want nice looking birds.

If he has huge spurs, he would be older than a year.

I'm going back and looking at your other images and seeing if you need to watch for boys in any of your blues.

All the blues look like girls. Your partridge one, are you sure it's a girl? It's the only one I would suspect is really not besides your known boys.

My red partridge is a boy for sure he is doing his mating dance to the girls already but they aren't interested yet. I have one blue that is a single comb(hate it) that might be a boy but I'm not sure. I was hoping for a girl so I could try to breed it out with a nice roo.
Here is the one I think might be a boy but I'm not sure. At almost 6 months, it has no long feathers to its tail at all. Just the single comb makes it hard to tell the sex. I have a colombian that could go either way to and was really hoping for a girl to go with my boy Animal. Here is a picture of that on too.

Hoping for a girl in the back for my boy in the front.

Layer can have high protein. It comes in different %'s. What it has that grower doesn't is a high calcium count.
Also, I'm checking out my feeds, and we don't have different types of grower. The type I get has lower protein than the layer. I do supplement protein with meats - especially this time of year. And they free range, so they get a lot of bugs, mice, etc. Saw my duck eat a toad.

Only option I have besides grower is medicated starter. I'm thinking of fermenting feed, which increases protein levels. Just have to figure out details.

LOL at the gross face :)

I think that single comb silkie is a girl. The beak and the lack of streamers gives me the impression of girl. At six months old, my boys have streamers.

How old is your Columbian silkie in question?

This one is almost 6 months old also. The one in front is my boy for sure, he's been crowing for about a month now. The one in the back is larger that some of my girls but not all of them at this age. It doesn't have any long tail feathers yet, looks like a hens tail. It can be very aggressive sometimes but I didn't raise this one from a chick, I bought it from another bycer. I really hope for a girl, might just have to wait it out.

Here is it's backside to.
