Silkie thread!

I know I should. Need to get a scale!

They were comparable visually at the provincial show (my girls). There were 38 to compare them to.
I definitely do want to weigh them! From what they told me over there, if the judges feel like the bird is to heavy them can DQ them, and if that is argued, they may (or may not) have a scale to weigh the birds in question.
if judge dq my bird for weight he better be able to back it up with scale

And Elliot is comparable visually to all the other Silkies I've seen at shows (100's if not 1,000's) so you DEFINITELY want to get a scale.

I only weighed him because I asked and had a judge question whether I should still be entering him as a cockerel based on his age, sight unseen. His advice, weigh him and decide that way .... so I did.

Aoxa, you keep stating (on this thread and the one you referred me to) you have a cock that is "just the right size" yet you've never shown him and you've never actually weighed him. I'd love to know how you know he's "just the right size"?

I have not weighed mine, but they are not heavy at all. Yes, I've heard of people getting their birds DQ for size. Hawkeye has. Sonoran has said anything over some set ounces over weight will be disqualified. I think it's 10.. Cocks are supposed to be 36 oz.
Worth noting that a hen that is the mother of the majority of my silkies is what I'd call Micro. My cock is either just right, or a bit under that. Another hen I have is as big as my cock.

The juvenile in me really wants to laugh. But, I'll get a infraction. Might still get one.

Anyone see my post about the crest shape? I figured it got lost in the midst of this weight discussioN heheheh. :)

my friends potential 'rooster'. do roosters have to have a swept back crest or can it be perfectly rounded?

a little off topic, but I can't for the life of me, figure out how to edit my signature. I've done it before, a few times. But I can't find it now, I've looked the past 2 days. i am officially losing it :) we had to put a chicken down this morning :( and I need to update my signature with the new silkies and losing this one.
I just looked....if you go to your profile and scroll down, down, down past your recent activity.... you should see a place to Edit Signature. If you don't you aren't looking in the right place...Haaaa
Good Luck let me know if ya find it?!?!?

I have them both ways - perfectly rounded and swept back. I'll let you know after next weekend how they are received - assuming they aren't all DQ'd for being overweight!

(I believe perfectly rounded is preferred but not entirely expected in males .... )
