Oh maybe a tarp and I could staple it down on the sides so that it isn't tight over the vents? I think that might work!

Okay thanks!Silkie chicks are very rarely sexed due to their size and the expense.
Your local feed store will most likely have straight-run unsexed chicks.
I watched the documentary and let me tell you, it's hilarious!I just put that chicken documentary in my Netflix feed. HAHA, I cant wait to see the eyes roll from my DH. haha!
That's way exciting!I've been missing in action (with Christmas sewing and baking) and have sure missed this thread.
THANK YOU, everyone for the adorable pictures. They make my day!![]()
I wanted to let my "silkie friends" know the good news.......I put 6 of Mysty Blues' eggs in the incubator on December 14th.And, the best part is that at least 4 of them are developing!!!
Hatchday is January 4th. I will be sure to update and post pictures.![]()
Here is a picture of Mysty Blue (left) and Mr. Puff (right)...the Mommy and Daddy of these eggs. These will be the very first chicks from my own silkies and I am SO excited.

Metal roof flashing, you can get it at Home Depot or Lowes. It would prevent rain from coming in and keep the ventilation good. It attaches to the roof and is at an angle(usually 45*). Sounds like 8" or 12" flashing would work. Ask someone at the stores to help.OK, on a serious note... the small coop I have for the silkies gets all wet when it rains. the ventilation is at the top and the length of the top of the coop, on both sides. I didn't build it, it was given to us 3 years ago. but it is just the top 6 inches of the coop, fencing material. so when it rains, the rain just blows in and gets everything all wet. What can I do to stop that from happening? Is there some type of fabric I could put over it to prevent it from blowing in, but allow the air to still flow through?
Some do some don't, they are a little quieter too being smaller. The silkies you get from the feed store though will not be show quality, so if you are looking for a good show quality chick you should go through a local breeder.Okay thanks!
I have 0 experience with silkies so do the roosters crow like regular ones?
My boys seem to crow less, and they are much more docile. I just love my silkie roosters. Some do some don't, they are a little quieter too being smaller.
