Silkie thread!

I don't think the others could be pulling on them. One of the curled feathers baby is older then the others and it is more apparent. The second one is a younger one but it has just started. They are so young right now that they are just beginning to feather on the wings and they don't seem to go after each other.

How is your calico project coming? I remember this summer, when you were going to focus on that variety. I hope it has been a rewarding project.

This is the first babies out of that pen. Mama just started laying less than a month ago. That real light color one is the color I am after, as I was told this is the color mama was at hatch.. I have 7 more eggs set, so

. I know it is going to be a long process, but I just love the color so much. I am ending up with mostly partridge coloring (which is fine, btw) but this is what I am truly after. I guess we will see as they grow. I also got a pretty little silvery partridge.

That's going to be a gorgeous silkie.

Is it possible that those feathers are coming in twisted? Earlier this year, Hawkeye had posted a picture of a bird that had split wing and also twisted feathers. If you can somehow find that post and compare the pics with your babies, it might help you figure out what is happening with your chicks.

Congratulations on your first calico hatch! Please be sure to post pics as they grow. I would love to see their colors. This fall, I saw a Bobbi Porto calico rooster that was just incredible. Of course, my daughter fell in love and now wants calico silkies too. But we are really trying to focus on a good solid SQ BBS pen and a pure black pen. I hope your babies turn out lovely! They are already adorable.

I have two birds that are getting their wing feathers in but they are curling at the end. They are not frizzles I know for sure. Its just the wing is curling up. Why is this? None of the others are doing this.
Could you post pictures? Maybe someone will be able to tell you more that way?

Love the color! I wish they'd stay that way when they grow up. lol

Kayla, here is mine all grown up. This little peep is her baby and the breeder told me the baby is just like mama was at hatch....

so she looks like there was possibly self blue in her background, mine has buff in hers so she is way more buff but has the same markings, just VERY light. They are easier to see when she is wet.
