Ok. Mine is definitely a blue.self-blue is lavender, self-blue cream is what we call "porcelain"
Is it possible for a blue to carry a lavender gene, though?

Hoping to get some opinions on this beardless girl. I've never had a beardless silkie before...or seen one in person. She is super sweet. And also, I was looking for the picture on beak sexing...did anyone know what page it was on? Or can someone repost? This one is for sure a girl, but I have some younger ones I'm not sure of. Thank you all!

well bearded not really, unless you tie their crest up with a small elastic or hair tape. Non beardeds can see much better.Hi Everyone! I am very new to chickens and about a month ago fell in love with them. Especially Silkies (so far)I have learned so much, but I have so much more to learn. Can anyone tell me if there is such a thing as a show quality (not big shows, but small local shows) Silkies that can see good without plucking or trimming around the eyes. That does not sound very fun for me or them! Thanks!! And if you know of any breeders or are a breeder of this type (white or splash Silkie), you can PM me if you'd like.
Price is totally dependent on quality. I sell pet quality pullets (not laying) for $25. I have some show quality girls that I would not take $200 for and everything in-between.How much do ya'll sell your hens for? I have people always asking me for hens.... wondering what the going price should be...

Splash to splash usually gets lighter. I would breed him to blue. Pretty boy.Any suggestions or help finding a hen for a little guy that looks like this? I'm going shopping (hopefully) at the Northeast Poultry Congress this month.![]()
I know, he's only about 4 months old in this picture.. Is it too early to plan?![]()
What's the key to breeding for splash? Some people seem to think "splash to splash = trash"...? Is that a common opinion people share or is that just a personal preference for certain people?
I have a blue hen. Apparently she might be carrying lavender because she was sold to me as a lavender but she's a 100% blue. lol The blue with my cockerel would give me
50% blue and 50% splash?
I also have a black pullet growing. That combo would give me 100% blue, correct (black to splash)?
Now I just need a splash hen for 100% splash!?![]()
Self-blue is the correct standard term for lavender.I could never understand the self blue term. Is it the same thing as lavender or is self blue a blue bird that carries the lavender gene? I don't get it.lol![]()
Yes. Every color can hide lavender (self-blue)Ok. Mine is definitely a blue.

I thought she looked like she had a manly beak too, but she started laying 2 days ago and is in with just 8-12 week olds...so I'm pretty positive she is a she. If not, I have some REALLY early layers. lol. I posted a pic on the partridge silkie thread too of my new partridge. I think that one is a girl too...from looking at this and from her coloring. I am envious of your partridge.

I sell my hens for nothing less than $15 each. My boys are no less than $10. I have no issues selling them. I sell my day old whites for $7 each non-sexed. I don't sell chicks other than that. I do not want to breed white. How much do ya'll sell your hens for? I have people always asking me for hens.... wondering what the going price should be...
My roo has a feminine beak. It is not always accurate, but works a lot of the time.I thought she looked like she had a manly beak too, but she started laying 2 days ago and is in with just 8-12 week olds...so I'm pretty positive she is a she.
