She's adorable! and her butt is huge

But hey the bigger the better! I miss having my white

Thank you! That isn't all her butt. She has a nice rear end also, but there is a lavender cockeral standing right behind her giving an illusion of a humongous bootie and that may be what you are seeing.

Sorry for jumping in here... I have a few questions about Silkies. Would they get along with other breeds if they were raised together from chicks? Can you have just one in a flock, or do you need a few? Do they need anything special? Do they need a heat lamp in the winter (Gets down to 20 degrees here)? Thanks. I love them, but haven't been able to get one. We may get chicks in the spring, and if we do, we're gonna get a Silkie or two.

Got a question for those that show. I've been showing belgian bearded d'uccles and old english game bantams and just bought a show quality silkie pullet. She is blue, but way darker than the pics I've seen here. She looks black except in strong light. Is that good, bad, or of no concern as far as showing ?

I'm not a specialist or anything, but here is what I know. And don't worry about "jumping in here", we are glad to have anyone here!
Silkies will get along with other breeds, thought remember, if you are mixing them with standard size chickens, they will most likely be at the bottom of the pecking order for their small size and sweet, docile personality. I reccommend getting more than one. I got two, so my other one wouldn't get picked on as much, because when you're at the bottom of the pecking order, you will get pecked a few times, unless things get serious, it's not a problem. (<----- long sentence xD) The pecking order is natural and chickens will be getting pecked, just to show there place but I'm sure you already know that! Let me stop blabbin on chickens xD BACK TO SILKIES. Anyways, so I got two so my other wouldn't be lonely. A white and a buff. The buff ended up not making it, which left my white alone. Right now, my chickens are 10 weeks old and the white one does get picked on some. My other young cockerels will peck at the white silkie and the other pullets will some times peck at her. I really wish that silkie didn't die, I really think she needs a friend.
Special wise, they do get broody but they make good mothers. Um, they can't fly so they need low perches and you need to make sure they go in at night if you free range them. Make sure they have stairs to get in the coop if off ground and make sure they had someway of getting into the nest boxes. Since they are tiny, I usually feed mine crumbles so they don't choke. I don't know if they will, I just flip out and feel the need to x3 I'm a worry wart when it comes to my babies xD Make sure you check them for lice and mites! Their long feathers provide a good home for those suckers. -.- I've been reading that you probably need to buy a second chick because some chickens may reject them and they need their buddies! Oh and sometimes, they need to be cleaned, poo sticks to their feet and vent easily. But never wash a chicken when it's cold outside, they will freeze to death!
Mine have a heat lamp in the winter, but they are very cold hardy. I don't wanna take any chances....but they aren't very heat hardy so make sure they have another area to go to if the lamp gets too hot or monitor to see if they are panting.
Hope that helps!

Thanks :) Looks like I'll probably get two silkies to go in with my rejected ones. You see, I bought a Light Brahma and an Easter Egger, and they were rejected by the layers (drew blood... multiple times.) along with a few new ones for the layers when we get a bigger coop :)
