Silkie thread!

Partridge I believe. Also some buff. But I believe Marty said, if you breed buff or self blue to partridge you can get an f1 for porcelain, then breed back to self blue to get the lighter color. My hen is an F1 porcelain and somewhere down the line someone bred a buff to a partridge to bring out the gold and it popped up again as predominantly buff.

At least that is how I understood it

Oh yeah what she said! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Wow she's gourgous. Ok, may think about gettin a patridge and self.

Does anyone know what a white silkie is good to breed with?

It is my understanding (and I am FAR from an expert) that you only want to breed white to white.

Now, I have never been a huge fan of whites, but I bought my 2 sweet little with pullets for Yule and I have to say, I LOVE them!
Yeah white X white, because white is a recessive gene you would not end up with white if you bred to any other color unless they were heterozygous for white. Also, you don't know what color is under the white unless you bred the line yourself so you would end up with odd colored babies.

I will be in the Spring. What are you looking for and how soon are you wanting them? I know several people in my area that sell chicks year round.

I love self blues (lavender) and self blue cream (porcelain) and have both. I really like the more unusual colors.

A porcelain has to have the self blue (lavender) gene.

The undercoat has the self blue color. Here is a CatDance porcelain pullet:

Wow! Absolutely gourgous!

I live about 30 mins away from Austin. I was wanting Seremas and/or Silkies. What colors do you breed? No time specifically. Just lookin' around for a couple of chicks possibly. Need to talk to the "girls" about it though ;D

In Silkies have chocolate, paint, blue partridge, partridge, buff, splash, calico (or tortoiseshell), blue, black. lavender, porcelain - seems like I am forgetting someone.

I have Seramas also and lavender Ameraucanas.

Looks like u got some nice paints. I included some pics of mine. I have a really nice black frizzled silkie from sheri in lincoln (shes the last pic). Super fluffy! I could get u some of her eggs when she starts laying in the spring.

Hi Gina:) Here are Catdance babies... love your splash roo:) So I posted my roos on CL and haven't gotten any interest and I say I'm gonna cull but I figured out today that I just can't cull any silkies....other birds yes but not my silkies!

Looks like I ended up with a couple of paints, a buff, a partridge and a couple of whites. I will be looking for blacks and blues next year if you have any eggs....

I was thinking I had a pullet until I took a closer look at the comb. The hatchmates have combs 2-3 times larger, but I still think boy, right? No head streamers, but seem to have neck streamers. I am a silkie novice.
