Silkie thread!

Yes, they can, and some breeders trim when they are in breeding pens; others AI. Super typey males can have problems "connecting" with the girls. So yes, somewhat similar issues as with the turkeys.
In addition to what you said here, the breeder with these whites DOES have issue with fertility if they are not clipped around the vent. My birds have 95-100% fertile eggs so far. I've had quitters and shrink wrapped chicks, granted - but all were fertile.

I've been wondering if my splash silkie rooster has a problem with "connecting" as you put it. He stands very erect with his head and tail feathers almost touching. This is the "type" which the breeder is shooting for, but his back appears to be short......therefore it doesn't seem possible for his vent to reach the hen's vent. I see him mating Mysty Blue and her eggs seem to have the white target showing fertility, but I haven't done a test hatch with Leo Pierre as the daddy. I might have to spy on them some more!
And then -I wonder if her eggs could be fertile from the silkie roo that used to be in the pen. He was a big guy that took his job of procreation very seriously. He was sold 5 weeks ago.

Ok, so my hen isn't eating the oyster shells apparently. Her eggs are still super thin. :( do you think it is ok to put layer pellets in there? I know I asked this bc my hubby put in the wrong ones, but he ended up going out there and scooping it all out bc he thought I was blazing mad LOL. I need to put food in there in the mroning, they're out. do you think it'll help? and the roosters will be ok long term?

Is this considered split wing? Or is this just feathers growing in? Should I be "culling" these from my program?

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for a couple of nice Black Silkie boys. Does anyone know where I can find any? I live in Vermont so I would either need someone within driving distance or someone that would be willing to ship when the temps are right.

Thanks:)
