Silkie thread!

Easiest ways to cure an egg eater are to
1) trim the beak very close to or maybe even a tiny bit into the quick. Add marble or wooden eggs, or blow eggs out and fill with plaster. They peck the egg and with the beak rimmed, it HURTS, so they stop.

2) Roll-out nests and or darkened nest boxes with a covering so that the eggs are not in plain, tempting sight.

Filling eggs with hot sauce or mustard or such has no affect. It might cure an egg eating dog or cat or other mammal, but not a bird. Birds do not have the ability to taste "spicy hot."

I found my cockerel sneezing today!!!!

I'll give him some of this stuff also. Then I thought I heard someone else sniffling too... I think I'm getting paranoid! lol But better to be safe than sorry, right? I gave everybody some VetRX and added vitamins and electrolytes in the water. Added extra shavings in the coop, hoping that will keep them warmer.

Do you think it would hurt to give Tylan to the rest of the flock also as a preventative just incase this sneezing is something that's spreading?
No, use it on the ones who are sneezing, because if you use it on healthy chickens and then they get sick it won't help. Their bodies will become immune to the tylan. It's an antibiotic. Also, don't eat any eggs for 14 days after the last dose.

so can I give my chickens the habanero cheddar cheese I have in my fridge? I can't eat it, too spicy.

Didn't quite get that

hey how ive read many methods is this way: put eggs fat side up in egg cartoon and use something to elevate one side so the eggs are tilted at a 45 degree angle and turn them 3 or more times a day but make sure its an odd number because you dont want them to be left overnight the same direction they were the night before so they dont stick to the sides... i hope that clears it up iit makes sense in my head lol...

If you buy cream, look for vaginal antifungal with Miconazole. I bought the Rite Aid version which was cheaper than the name brand. I understand that sometimes Favus will create a honeycomb look to the skin. You could check your pullet to see if this is developing. Rather than treat the others, you might consider quarantining her for a little while, just until you get this resolved.

Since chicks are so tiny, so be cautious with the amount you use.

I apologize that I have been offline and did not respond to the last question about the eye drops...and now I cant locate who posted the question. The eye drops we have at home are probably similar to what you have for the horses...Polymyxin B Sulfate and Trimethoprim Opthalmic solution. Using the eye drops resolved the sneezing, mucousy nostrils and crusted eye problem.
I'll have to look to see if we have those eye drops just incase Tylan doesn't do the trick. I'm pretty sure we have those.

Yeah, I thought of that after posting. lol
I'll keep giving VetRX and vitamins to the rest of the flock. Hopefully this isn't some sort of a bug that's spreading...

The little black pullet that started everything has been in quarantine for well over a week and I just heard the cockerel sneeze today. I need to get some Oxine!

I used oxine mix in a nebulizer (nebulized for a half hour 3 times a day) as well as the tylan, to cover all my bases after having my pullet sick for over 2 months and nothing else worked.

Tell me more about this nebulizer?
I was going to buy oxine and spray the coop for starters but if Tylan doesn't work, I'll give the nebulizer a shot as well.

If they had a respiratory fungal infection oxine would clear it up. I think I have a post on it somewhere I will find it. I couldn't figure out what Nori had, so I bought oxine and tylan and I mixed the oxine with water (will find dosage) and put it in a nebulizer and sat with Nori on the couch watching tv for a half hour or until it ran out. You can also use a humidifier.
