Silkie thread!

I just wanted to share a few pictures I recently took

This is Nimbe.

Nimbe with her sister Borealis.

Here Borealis looks like a little owl.

A two month old trying out her wings.
Very cute pictures!!!

Silkies are supposed to have a higher protein food anyway, around 20%-22%, The agway hearty hen soy-free I just bought has 18% protein and I am going to mix it with the H and H organic soy-free starter/grower. A lot of breeders keep their silkies on starter/grower their whole lives and supplement with oyster shell. Too much calcium is bad for them because they are not consistent egg layers.
Thank you so much for this excellent info. I will be just starting out with silkies so I really want them to be as healthy as possible and know as much as possible about them before I start. Truly greatful. How much oyster shell do you allow them to have?

unlimited, they pick at it as they need it. But do not give oyster shell to chicks or pullets/hens that are not laying.

Just though I would post a couple pics of the project color chicks I got from peepblessed. They are so cute about 8 weeks old.

Here is older sis (almost positive she's a she). Only 10 1/2 weeks now and a ton of fluff. Unfortunately she has wry neck but she's doing quite well but you can see her head is crooked. I was hoping to breed a light blue partridge but most are a dark "porcelain". Just pretty eye candy. :D There's a 7 week old down at her feet. That's not all her. :D

Have you tried treating it? Do you know what it is from? A lot of the times it is from a vitamin deficiency. I was actually just going to post pictures of my friend's chick who is battling with wry neck right now, she is doing MUCH better! Just friday she was dragging her head and couldn't stand on her own. She looked TERRIBLE! Today this is what she looks like, she has been getting Poly-Vi-Sol without iron 4 times a day and is hand fed.

Sorry for the poor quality!
