Ivermectin is an excellent wormer; that is its predominant use. Killing mites and lice is a side benefit, albeit one that I, and many others use it for.
I recently learned that Ivermectin doesn't kill everything. Here's an article http://www.peafowl.org/ARTICLES/21/Ivermectin will not kill Cecil worms nor tapeworms, and large roundworms have been showing resistance to the product due to its overuse as a miteacide in chickens.
I personally have never used Ivermectin on anything but horses, so I have no idea what it does to a chicken. I was recommended Fenbendazole (Safeguard/Panacur) and albendazole (Valbazen). Just thought I'd share. Maybe someone has better information on this?
When I first moved to the farm where I live now, all the chickens here were infested with lice.I am having a horrible time with Northern Fowl Mites...they are tryin real hard to kill my black silkie girl. I have dusted her, coop and everyone else with sevin...sprayed..cleaned coops...everything...thye seem to like her best. Just when I think they are gone...POOF they are back on her! I have heard that you can use Frontline (for dogs). That is my next step. Any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated!!

I used Ultra Boss, sprayed all the chickens and coops. I never treated them for the second time and haven't seen lice since! I used this product because we had it in the barn for our goats and sheep. You just have to dilute it with water...and don't ask me how much water to dilute it with, I can't remember!
