Silkie thread!

I hate fake people. Especially if that fake person is also a pushy, obnoxious, loud mouthed, snobby, spoiled nutjob

... that is all... sorry...

needed to vent...
I feel ya. I very much dislike fake people also.

Ivermectin is an excellent wormer; that is its predominant use. Killing mites and lice is a side benefit, albeit one that I, and many others use it for.
Ivermectin will not kill Cecil worms nor tapeworms, and large roundworms have been showing resistance to the product due to its overuse as a miteacide in chickens.
I recently learned that Ivermectin doesn't kill everything. Here's an article http://www.peafowl.org/ARTICLES/21/
I personally have never used Ivermectin on anything but horses, so I have no idea what it does to a chicken. I was recommended Fenbendazole (Safeguard/Panacur) and albendazole (Valbazen). Just thought I'd share. Maybe someone has better information on this?

I am having a horrible time with Northern Fowl Mites...they are tryin real hard to kill my black silkie girl. I have dusted her, coop and everyone else with sevin...sprayed..cleaned coops...everything...thye seem to like her best. Just when I think they are gone...POOF they are back on her! I have heard that you can use Frontline (for dogs). That is my next step. Any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated!!
When I first moved to the farm where I live now, all the chickens here were infested with lice.

I found out that one old rooster was the cause of everything...at least that's what it looked like. One hen was moved to his pen, later on she'd go someplace else and give lice to everyone there, so forth and so on.
I used Ultra Boss, sprayed all the chickens and coops. I never treated them for the second time and haven't seen lice since! I used this product because we had it in the barn for our goats and sheep. You just have to dilute it with water...and don't ask me how much water to dilute it with, I can't remember!

It was a couple of years ago.

Poor girl, are you sure it's mites? Maybe post a picture in the emergency section and someone can help. I feel so bad for you both.
I don't know what to think anymore but I know something is eating her up. It is getting out of control. I don't even want to take any pictures because it is so embarrassing. She looks SO bad. I went to examine her again and I was holding her crest to apply some triple antibiotic cream and half of her crest feathers ended up in my hand. She is losing all her feathers from her throat to her crest to her neck. I couldn't stop crying. She looks like she has a mohawk now instead of a crest. So awful. The rest of her body looks fine, her feet look normal as well as her belly.
no it is not the same thing do not use it. Also you can't put the topical flea and tick stuff more than once a month, as well as flea and tick shampoo. It will kill her from overdose.have you used the douxo yet? It will take a while, apply it with a wet face cloth gently but scrub enough to get the flakes off and then rinse off with a clean wet facecloth. Don't get it in her eyes. I would do it every other day for a while.
I went and bought frontline. I know she went through so many chemicals but I am so desperate that I am willing to take the risk. The last time I applied Ivermectin was February 4th, so 10 days ago. Usually it says to reapply 15 days later. So I don't know.... I just cannot see her deteriorating more and more (and probably suffering). It will be my last try...
Oh yes and I forgot to mention that I did give her a bath with douxo and was planning on giving her another one Saturday.

My girl was doing better after I applied Ivermectin and some triple antibiotic cream, but I decided to stop the cream for some Nustock (apply every 3 days). I went to check her this morning and she looks bad again! Her face is peeling and looking awful again. One of her eye is pretty red. I applied some triple anitbiotic cream again and my friend has some Advantage. I was just wondering if it is the same Frontline. Please help!!!!
I'm so sorry that you are still dealing with this. Have you been able to rule out anything so far.. fungal, bacterial, lice, mites? Did any treatments help and did any make things worse?

I know that one of the folks on FaceBook was dealing with face mites that never seemed to go away, despite all attempts to rid them. I think she just solved the problem in the last few days. If you suspect mites, can you check FB to see what finally worked for her? I'll try to find the note and send you a PM on FB.

Are you sure its not just a really severe molt?
I don't think she is molting because her entire face, neck, throat is peeling and flaking like crazy. She is only 4 months old.

I tried everything.... feet and vaginal cream, oatmeal bath, flea and ticks shampoo, Nustock, douxo shampoo, sevin, ivermectin, eprinex and the list goes on.

Douxo does take a few treaments to start to work. I would try JUST the douxo for 2 weeks, using every other day and if there is no improvement then try the frontline. Nothing works overnight unfortunately.

\OMG I love her. What was her parents.
I have no Idea what her parents were. I adopted her from a BYC member who got her from nhnanna also a BYC member. She is super sweet and not too tiny. And best part is the Green eggs! I love it. I think I heard that she may have a mix of silkie possibly cochin and Ameraucana. Thats just a guess though.

this is her egg

I have a few of her eggs in the incubator right now. Before I got her she was in with a rooster with I believe the same parents(or similar) so the babies should be the cutest.
