Man, they're cute!!
Beautiful Chicks!!
Yay!!! So glad your efforts paid off. She'll be a special chick for you as she/he grows up.Just wanted to post a picture of the only 2 silkies from my flock that hatched( out of 12). The left one is a white and I'm pretty sure the right one is a splash. I ended up helping the white one hatch. The splash was with a broody silkie, who was a terrible mom.
I went out this morning to open up my chicken coops and was looking for the baby chick. I had figured it had hatched overnight since I last saw it pipping last night. It took a minute but there it was upside down in the shavings, mom had gotten up and went outside. I was very sure it was dead and was telling her she was terrible. When I picked up the baby it was half warmish and half cold.
I put the baby down and finished doing a couple other things. I came inside when I was finished, about 10 to 15 minutes later. I put the baby down thinking that I would put it with the other chick that passed away last month, in a baggie in a freezer. I just happened to look down and it looked like it was gasping for air!
So I cleaned out it's little mouth since there was a small piece of shaving in there. I tried to give it water and vitamins and I rubbed it and stuck it under a heat lamp. I kept rubbing and rubbing it and kept gentley tugging it's legs. I was trying anything I could think of.
I patted it's back and just tried and tried to get it to make a sound.
Finally it peeped! then it's little head kept going under itself, but it was pepping more and more. I figured that it had wry neck or something and I was in for some vitamin therapy for a while. But at this point I just didn't care, I was just happy it was alive.
I put it in a little box, seperate from my other babies, under the heat lamp and left to do the errands I had to do. This took me 45 mintues, but worth every second! To my surprise, when I got home there was this beautiful little splash silkie peeping and standing and looking at me!! I was thrilled!!!
My little dolls!!!
Love the new name!!!Okay heads up to all my BYC peeps, this is Chicksnherps. My laptop was stolen and I am unable to retrieve my password for my old account.... SO! This is me, and this is most likely going to be my farm name also![]()
Beautiful coloring. I really like the roo!
Bobbi Porto, Indigo Eggs, is in FL but she has beautiful birds. I got 2 splashes from her recently and they're both very pretty.Does anyone know where I can get splash or grey silkie hens from near Southern Maryland? I have tried ordering splash silkies from my pet chicken and gotten only blacks. I would like a pullet or adult that way I am sure no roosters and it would be better for introducing to my flock of 5 month olds. Any info would be greatly appreciated! =) thanks!
Oh yea and bearded preferably!![]()
Quote: White with black on hackles primaries and tip of tail. Not common in silkies. Think of light brahmas. These chicks do not look columbian.
Thanks so much!![]()
