Silkie thread!

Went out to feed everyone this morning and found Kung Pow(black pullet 14 weeks) dead. No sign of injury. She was fine yesterday when I covered the tractor. HMM. Now I have just theu Blue cockerel and the Porcelain pullet.

My chicks will be 9 weeks this week...I see red wattles on 2, a redish comb on one of those...roos?

I can't remember who told me on here, but they said something about- if you see red wattles or comb before 12 weeks then probably a roo. True?
What color are your chicks?
I have a splash pullet, 7 or 8 months old now, I was sure she was a boy when they were 4 or 5 months old. She developed dark purple wattles and the comb was looking mulberry color. Well, it still turned out to be a girl.

Can you post us pictures?

Awww...I'm so sorry to hear that. What a rough start to Silkies you've had. So frustrating when they just die like that. It's hard enough when they are sick or injured.

silkies should never have red comb or wattles, regardless of age or gender.

I just can't believe how much trouble you've had with your chicks. I am so sorry. I sure hope you are able to get a healthier strain. Don't give up on them!

Quote: Really?! I'm just beginning to learn about their sleeping habits. I had my girls out for a supervised free range outing yesterday and my dogs were out with us as I did some garden work. I looked over and my splash was laid out in a little patch of green grass, one leg all stretched out behind her and her wing laying loosely beside her. My 75 lb retriever was standing over her. Shear panic overtook me as I rushed to her imagining the worst.

I had no idea they slept in such akward positions but this picture is proof. LOL!!!
