I'm trying to find a better feed for our silkies & cochin bantams. The farm had switched feeds and to my surprise, it only has 16% protein. I guess it works for all other chickens on the farm but I want something better for my silkies and the cochins. Unfortunately our local feed store sells mostly 16% feeds

So I need help! The feed store has this 18% chick starter/grower.

There's also a 22% meatbird feed. Is this something silkies & cochins could eat?

And they have this scratch grain that doesn't have much. What would you use a grain like this for?

That's it for our feed store. Should I look someplace else?

So happy =) Got my ASBC membership card and 2011-2012 directory and yearbook! Also, Nori made the cover of the 2013 Poultry Congress photo yearbook!

That's pretty awesome too! lol I actually was thinking of doing this when I start getting some of my silkies ready for shows. We have all kinds of pet cages in the barn. It'll work perfect!
What do you have for "bedding" in there?

This is what I use, they love it! I mix it with Agway's Hearty hen layer pellets for Nori.

Tube sand, works great! Easy to clean, lasts forever! It keeps her feet clean and gives them a pedicured feel

Also, it's natural grit so I don't have to worry about buying the $9 tiny bag of grit

Oh, and I find that the rabbit water bottle works a lot better than a water dish or poultry waterer! It doesn't take up space inside the cage, doesn't get contaminated with bedding or poop, and it's easy to train them to use. Plus it's cheap!
