I don't know anything about keeping records on hatches but I will soon learn! lol Today, I am moving my white cochin pair in the barn and I'll start collecting eggs in a couple of weeks. Sooner or later, I'll set up my splash silkie cockerel with one or two blue hens and collect those eggs too. I'm also thinking of ordering more eggs...silkie eggs of course! lol I'd really also love to get some mille fleur cochin eggs, but my boss might kill me if I did that too.

Well...I'll have all summer to hatch! lol

Can anyone tell me the perks of their silkies? I can't wait to receive mine on Thursday from Ideal Poultry! I know they lay very small eggs and I know they are great showbirds. I chose to get silkies because of their cute and fluffy looks and because I know they are very good broody hens. But can anyone tell me if the eggs can sell?
Silkies are great! They're fun to watch, they're very sweet and personable. And smart. like PaintedFeathers mentioned. They're just great. You can't get enough of those silkies! lol

I think I'm going to order a diaper for my rooster, Beaker. lol He is such a HAM, I can't believe it!

Then he can come hang out in the house and visit with the cats. LOL

I have no trouble selling eggs when I have extras which isn't often.

This one has black spots on it's head. Color ideas?

Hi! Here are some pics of my 2 week old silkie babies. They are from Ideal! Most of them are beardless, a couple have funky toes, one is missing a toe on one foot and one even has light skin. I don't care one bit! They are soooo cute and are great little pets!

My first Silkies were ones I bought at the county fair... not show quality by any means but they were wonderful and because of them I still have this breed over 30 yrs later!!!

Congratulations on your decision to get some Silkies! For me their docile nature is a big thing.. love that I dont have to chase them down to catch them. Love that they look "furry" , love they dont fly over short fences, Love my Roosters like me

, They are good mamas and love they piles they make at night on the floor of the coop lol! I have never sold eggs but Im sure you could...

I think I got my first silkie egg but I'm not sure. Here's the story. So yesterday it was raining a little bit and when I got home from school I went down to check on them and collect eggs. I realized that one of my silkies is missing so I checked in the coop and she was there. They don't know how to walk down the ramp yet but they know how to walk up. When I looked in I saw all of the shaving in piles and all over the place. I always make sure they are nice and flat. I didn't see anything yesterday cause the shavings were all over the place. I looked in today and I saw a little red mark in the shavings and when I got to it and uncovered it it was an egg. It is just smaller than an inch and a half long and smaller than an inch wide. The color is a light cream/tan. All of my silkies are around six and a half to seven months old. So the big question is do you think one of my silkies laid it.
Thanks
mike
