Silkie thread!

Hi Norcal friends :) Been crazy around here... A silkie chick with wry neck passed, my EE is better from her URI, but not laying yet. I got some Coturnix quail that are slowly laying & I'm just managing the different ages & cages :) I found an egg my leghorn laid today streaked with blood. Should I be concerned?? Also I'm looking for more quail to buy, but can't seem to find any locally. Anybody know of anybody with quail for sale?

Soooooo.............. the guy I got these from says they are silver.

??????????? What do I have?

Hi guys, my pullet laid her first egg! Is it right that I can't incubate it?

andlook at my roosters and the chicks, aww. the hen is in the middle of it there.

Here is how thin the pullet who just laid an egg looks. I am going to try worming them I guess. Can you hatch eggs when they're on a wormer?

see how the keel bone protrudes?? ugh. I dont' understand what is going on. can it be anything besides worms? she acts normally.

I've hatched pullet eggs before. The chicks are usually smaller than normal. If you want normal sized chicks, wait a while.

I wouldn't worry about hatching eggs from a bird that's been wormed. I wouldn't eat an egg from one.

I add ground pumpkin seeds, garlic powder, and cayenne powder to my chickens fermented feed. It does nothing to the taste of the eggs and will make the chickens body inhospitable to worms and disease. When a chicken eats fermented feed, a greater proportion of protein becomes available to the bird during digestion. They eat less and put on weight faster. This is my experience.

Hi silkie experts, I have a question: We first got our silkie 2 weeks ago. She layed one egg on the monday after we got her, and another on the wednesday that we got her. Since then, we have had 0 eggs from her. She hasn't layed for a week and a half. Is this normal in silkies? I knew they were bad layers but we weren't expecting this. Thanks! Also, we know she is fairly young, still under a year.

I can't figure out the fermented feed. I know I've read a lot about it, but I don't quite understand how it is done. Plus, is it very time consuming? I mean, the silkies don't barely go through food, how often would I need to make it up?

Maybe I'll pop the egg into the incubator and see what happens. is there anything wrong wtih a small chick? does it turn into a small hen? or does it just get a small start?
