Silkie thread!

All the information i can find says that stainless steel is non reactive. I'm not trying to be disagreeable. I just want to be sure because the container i have is stainless steel and it already has a built in strainer. I don't want to buy something if i don't have to.

No problem! I was just pointing out what the blog said. Maybe stainless steel is different? I would like to find a large glass container myself I think that would be best. I don't strain mine I have it down to where I make it very thick my birds like it better that way. If it gets to sloppy I add a hand full of dry crumble and it absorbs the extra water. I stir once or twice a day and never have mold. I always scrap the sides down really well so no food is sticking there to mold. I love the dark orange yokes. :)

Thank you.

S Butler lives in Bothell/Woodinville area of Washington State. I've never met her or seen her flocks. I purchased hatching eggs at the WFF Winter Brisk show last fall. I used a liaison I met on BYC and she delivered the eggs to me. Sheryl Butlers reputation for beautiful Whites is legendary. I've heard she is now down sizing her farm.

My Grey Marg Best roo is six months old. I lost my little pullet that I purchased with him as a pair. I have no other Grey chicks and don't know how I'm going to use him. He is a funny little character. He and the Catdance White roo can't tolerate each others company so I put a cage over them so Stinkus could play on the grass and act tough. He is light for a grey but I don't care. He has beautiful color and his foot feathering is magnificent. I've cut half his crest back and also cut his cushion back. I didn't need to yet. Though he is crowing, he shows no interest in the girls. Six months is still too young for hanky panky.

He has no leakage or off color. He does love his FF and gets filthy with it. Silly boy!
Mumsy I didn't know you lost your grey Pullet :( very sorry to hear. Your Roo is gorgeous!

Actually the light color is very common for the grey Roosters, just a little FYI. Mine is the same. He is very nice. Marge is awesome, and I just got a buff roo from her.
Check with Marge. I got some grey eggs from her and they did well in hatching. Nice babies. I'm sure she can help you.
Have a great night.

I went out to check my broody with chicks later then usual today bc we had quite a bit of snow come down last night. Her little Silkie chick was strangled to death and the little Cochin now has what appears to be a broken wing

I went and trimmed all of the fluff off her belly after I found the last strangled chick. The Silkie was stuck in her leg feathers and the Cochin was stuck to her butt

I don't think I'll ever use her as a broody again. So discouraging. My other broody Silkie was still preening and keeping herself tidy during the whole ordeal of hatching and such. It doesn't look like Ellie has been doing that. Her feathers are such a mess. She started with 8 and is down to 3. I hope she enjoys this experience, bc it'll never happen again

Wow this is so sad, she must really have some thick feathers. So sorry you had this happen. I wouldn't leave anymore chicks under her.
