Silkie thread!

I have two things...

I go away for three days with two of my girls to a family function. When I left, everyone had tons of food, water and snacks. I get home to find my little SG cockerel looking at his chest! I hope it was because the slightly bigger birds (all hatched at the same time, but three of them grew like weeds

) hogged all the food, not because they pecked him in the head. I removed the bigger birds, and now all the ones he is with are the same size or slightly smaller. Will putting additional supliments in the water hurt the other birds? or should I isolate?

Second thing, with FF, is it okay to ferment feed that has had cracked corn added? Before I found out about all the awesome things FF does, I had bought and mixed Purina Flock Raiser and cracked corn.
sounds like he has wry neck, try poly-vi-sol baby vitamins without iron, a couple drops in the mouth 2 times daily. If it gets worse do 4 times. Also, yes it's fine to ferment cracked corn, also good to add BOSS and other goodies.

Thanks PaintedFeathers! I was going to start the vitamins tonight, I have to go get some... I was going to add garlic, oregano and cayenne pepper like someone else has/is doing. I have a place to get those spices in bulk so I think it will work out well. Do you add the BOSS during the fermentation process or after? Do you grind them up or feed whole?

So many questions!!!

whole, but if your guys are small I would stay away from it until they are older. Also provide grit if you use whole grains. I use sand as a substrate so they get grit from that. Also, using the poly vi sol without iron 4 times a day I cured my friend's chick who had wry neck pretty badly. It was standing on it's head and couldn't get up or walk. If it isn't a vitamin issue then that would stunk but start with that. You can massage his neck gently too.
for some reason my iPad is acting up.. I did hit the right button for the last post..
Anyway. One more question. How long did they keep their outfit on?? They are so funny... Little stinkers!

They keep them on until I take them off

I have 2 pens of adult birds and a solitary crate for a special needs roo and call duck, and a pen with the babies who are now 3 months old, is that still too young to feed whole grains? As for my guy with neck issues, I have read it takes time to heal so I will do all I can for him. He is the only white SG I got off of my avatar roo before he lost his life defending his flock from a hawk... I really want this little guy to pull though no matter what! I don't think his is as bad as your friends chick, he looks like some one who is inspecting their shirt for a stain or something, he is still fairly upright and able to eat and walk around on his own. If I relate it to a horse, he would be one of the dressage type horses that have their pole extended to far. I'll try to get some photos and post them when I get home in an hour.

So at least you have caught it quick =) The key is keeping on it and nipping it in the bud. You should be fine giving the whole grains if they are 3 months.

okay um... just candled the eggs. I noticed that I have two of them sitting with the aircell on the bottom

is this bad? can I flip them over still? They are ones that both sides look identical so I never even checked to see which one had the aircell. One is sitting right and may possibly have development but still too soon.
