Silkie thread!

As you can see here is my free range tractor, easy to assemble made with 2 4 x6 and 2 4 x 8 s it took 6 1/4 inch pieces, 5 on the body one across the middle of 8 foot pvc pieces held in place with brackets you use for plumbing and misc.pieces of pvc with elbows for the square door. The zip ties hold it together. We happen to have this plastic off a construction job and coasters we had lying around, since the only predators we worry about around here are hawks(at least for the moment

) this works great. I haven't lost a silkie since I built it. We also used one pieces of scrap molding for the back for extra support....hopefully this helps this whole thing costs us a few dollars to make but we had much of the materials around the barn. It is simple to make and the silkies love it. I love that the hawks don't seem to be hanging around anymore since they haven't had a meal around here.

Hehe sounds like my first show

Did you see my thread on how I groom my silkies for show?

I will check that out. I think I'm going to get him nice and clean, and then he'll get dirty on the way up. Mom suggested using gauze and medical tape for his feet. Maybe I'll wrap him up like a mummy. The only thing he's is is Purina, and it's making his poop take up most of the cages!!

I have professional pics of toulouse, ice, and nori I am going to hang in my coop when we move!

I was going to hang photos of mine too- but the building I'm getting voids the warranty when you mess with it. I'm afraid just nailing a hole in it will void it. Alas, no doors to the outdoor runs.

Don't worry about the feet, if you put him on plain white cat litter it helps to keep them clean. Just bring baby wipes with you to wipe off any accidents. I drove 2 1/2 hours to my last show and no one had poop on their feet.

My broody silkie hen displaying her head issue.she's been like this since she was a chick, but seems otherwise perfectly fine. Quick head movements bring it on. I call her my headbanging chicken :) she's sitting on 4 turkey eggs right now. She was getting her once daily meal when I filmed her.

Nori is laying soft shelled and rubber eggs. I have oyster shell for her but she isn't touching it... What can I do to boost her calcium intake so she doesn't bind again? She has been laying daily! Ofcourse, it's AFTER I took her off the layer feed

I ferment their feed, I do have some pure bone meal available but I have heard some bad things about bone meal. Can I boil one of her egg shells and grind it up to a powder and just mix that in with her breakfast?

Feed her some scrambled eggs with the shell crushed in them. Also, some plain yogurt is a good source of calcium...

I've got 21 of my Silkie eggs cooking in the bator :celebrate
Hopefully I have a better hatch rate then the last time I set eggs (2/11). Yesterday was officially day one, 20 days and lots of turning to go!
