Just thought I'd post a picture of my two broody hens.

Good move! I don't wait for movement, if I just see a dark mass and no smell, that's good enough for me.
I put my 11 remaining eggs in lockdown last night. I have 1 pip as of noon today

I'm expecting this porcelain baby sometime tonight

I was sure the chick was dead because it didn't hatch with the rest of the eggs. I can't wait to see what comes out of this egg! It'll be a mutt for sure. lol Dad is a New Hampshire Red and mom a white Maran looking thing thay lays green eggs. lol
Good luck with the porcelain! Someday I'll have one of those myself. I have a couple of lavender eggs in my incubator, hopefully they'll all hatch and I'll have healthy chicks.

Oh yeah, in that case I'm sure I would be guilty of tossing a living babe. I'm terrible about it too. I will candle and take the egg and tap it and listen, but if I don't hear anything I'll toss it. I'm a wuss, too afraid to open it up and see. I don't want the guilt!

Exactly what I do too. If it looks like it has developed and has never had an obvious blood ring or infertile etc then it goes to lockdown.

hmm i have a cat just like that i always thought was a grey tabby he was also found on the highway next to captin ds as akitten... so his name is fishsticks lol

Most likely is. A russian blue is a specific breed, but any mixed cat can be blue. It's just a color. A true russian blue looks like this:

I have a little green egg out in the Silkie coop under my broody hens. The other eggs hatched Saturday or Sunday, if I remember right. I set all the eggs at the same time but this last egg just pipped today (Thursday). How does that work?? I was going to throw it away earlier in the week but I candled it and could have sworn I saw something moving, so I left the egg with the hens. Good thing I did!

Finally! A warm day in Minnesota. The little gals got out for the first time. They love it

Is there a chance a hen laid the egg and the broody snatched it? They will carry them a long ways.

Here is a picture of one of my 7 week olds. It's crest coming in has me confused but it has no comb and no color to the ,comb yet.

Im hoping that both of these are girls.

I agree, it is likely feathers that are blocking vision. Trim them a bit and she should see much better.

So when the blindness theory occurred to me I thought this might be the cause too... Trimmed her up since at that point I was just concerned about her well being rather than worrying about showing. There was no change in her behavior whatsoever - still acting like an odd little thing. I can't think of any other cause since there was no change. Just very weird.
