Silkie thread!

I'm so confused! I've got 4 large hens and I'm getting small tan eggs. I've got a 3 month old BR pullet and it can't be her. I was told my silkies were 3 months when I got them and that was a month ago.
I had one silkie that started laying a few days before she turned 5 months but Large chickens often lay small eggs in the beginning.
My 3 month olds have dried off

They look just a bit better!

Are Silkie roosters always bigger than hens as babies? I have 5 silkies who are 4 week old and I have 5 sizes from small to big.. I have 1 streight beak and 4 that are curved down slightly..does either
one point to a roo? The larger white one is the boss and does the chest bump . I want to tame them down as they are scared of me..I wanted a really nice pet and hoping for a hen. Any tips how to tame them? I have made progress. They will let me sat with the cage door open without running ( still in the house with me) and they will eat out of my hand; otherwise they run away from me..They still fuss when I am holding them...Help!!!!!!!!!!

Start offering meal worms for treats, soon they will be eating them out of your hand. You can buy a bag of dried meal worms at Wal-mart in the wild bird feed section.

that sort of attitude is what got me into this fluffy, fun mess

I think that sort of attitude got most of us in this mess. I started with "just 4"...and then figured, what's one more?! Sure. What's 6 more while you're at it, right??

I have a silkie that i think is wanting to go broody. She is in with a rooster and two other hens, they have one box to share. Do i need to put her in a pen alone with a box of eggs or will she start sitting in the box they share. I have never had a broody hen, so I was not sure if the other two hens or the rooster could keep her from going broody. I have been lurking and know that ya'll would have the information I need to solve this issue.

Thank ya'll for any help
Richard
I have all my silkies in a pen together. There are 3 roosters and probably 7 or 8 hens now, I'd have to do a head count. Can't remember. They all get along just fine and the hens are going broody all the time. Never had to move one.

If they want to go broody, they will. And when you DON'T want them to go broody, they will!

Good luck!

I have a pen full of self-blue cockerels that are 3 - 4 mos old. This is my favorite!

Size is sometimes an indication of sex but not consistant. I had a big dominant chick I was sure was a boy that turned out to be a girl. :)
He's beautiful
