My lil babies(one Americana)

I have a silkie that i think is wanting to go broody. She is in with a rooster and two other hens, they have one box to share. Do i need to put her in a pen alone with a box of eggs or will she start sitting in the box they share. I have never had a broody hen, so I was not sure if the other two hens or the rooster could keep her from going broody. I have been lurking and know that ya'll would have the information I need to solve this issue.

Thank ya'll for any help
Richard

Okay, thanks for the info on your guys' experience w/Houdans. I think I found a Houdan thread, but don't really go there b/c we just have the 1 and I have "so many" threads that i've looked up and replied to that it's just too much to try to keep up w/them all. I already sit on the pc for hours every morning and I'm trying to cut back on my pc time cuz I've just got too much to do. So I don't always check threads regularly. I just told DD16 a few things you guys said about your experiences and told her again that any of the chickens that become aggressive or start causing problems are going in the pot. Or if we have too many roosters and have a couple that are too loud and noisy & neighbors are complaining to the landlords. Doesn't matter if it's her fave one or if it's MY fave one; any of them that become an actual problem are going bye-bye. It defeats the purpose of raising chickens to cut down on our grocery bill if we never actually butcher them and eat the meat.

The houdan thread is VERY slow moving. There are not many who have them. Feel free to jump in. We'd love to have you.

PS: Agree with you on the meat part. We process our extra roosters (except silkies - I can not do it - sorry Mumsy!)

someone on CL has chicks from these parents... what do you think?

I don't like the look of that rooster, but the hen is cute :)Hard to tell type of the hen by the picture. Her wings look nice, and her colour too.

The rooster looks like it has big red wattles. It could be something else, it's so small it's hard to tell.
