Silkie thread!

Not a silkie, but my poor little "thing 1" has come down with wryneck

Found him this morning. Have him stablized on the dog bed and giving him poly-vi-sol and wet food mash with egg.

Oooh, I am sorry. I didn't know they could get wry neck when they got older! Here's hope for a full recovery soon

Only was guessing on the last pic. I have both blue and cuckoos and from the pic it was hard to tell. The others came from segregated pens. The last one is a blue. Yes the white looking one has black spots on its back and tail.

Ah. So the first one is a Paint.

The second one is a Porcelain? I was just over reading the Porcelain Silkie thread and most of those chicks looked pale buff/lavender coloring. I have no clue, Porcelain (or Self Blue Cream as was suggested.. or Opal) is still a work in progress and I don't have any. I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of birds listed under that name (like Partridge has now) that don't match the genotype - only phenotype.

They are really cute!

What color could this little guy possibly be? It's about three weeks old now and was not yellow as a young chick like whites are, but more colored like a splash chick. But it's not showing any "splashiness" to its coloring. It appears more silvery with white wingtips and tail, but maybe that's just the black skin showing through white feathers? What did I get here?

For comparison here's my white and splash at around five weeks old. The splash has no tail. It got pasty butt after we brought the chicks home, so all those feathers had to go. :(

Whites do not have to be yellow as young chicks. I have a white that was pure white. If it is based on Silver - and has a gene called something like "silver chick down" it will be pure white. In the "old days" most white Silkies were white as chicks... so I have heard.. You may have a "Silver White" there. Very pretty!

And I LOVE

that gawky stage. I don't know why - just do.

Here is mine as a chick:

Yellow light does not help - its pure white

Better showing color

And mine a bit older next to an "oops was supposed to be a partridge but was from the white pen" chick.

Once again, yellow lightbulb.. but you can see mine is more silvery white.

I should get a better picture now that they both are older - they are both White.

How does the whole class thing work between non bearded and bearded silkies? I will be showing my white non bearded silkie tomorrow and I wanted to know if they compete against the bearded silkies( I probably look really dumb right now but I'm beyond the point of caring

). I ask because one of the other people from fair has really nice bearded silkies and I wanted to know if I will get crushed tomorrow or if his won't affect me too much. BTW non of his are white.

Hi everyone!!
We hatched our flock the week of Christmas (dec 27th?) and nobody has started laying yet, I know Silkies take about six months, but im really expecting to find an egg anyday now! Do you think it's possible or probably closer to July? The main reasson we hatched in the Winter was because we were hoping to have mature birds by Summer.

I haven't had any of mine lay before 8 months. Some take over a year.
