Silkie thread!

I got some more pics of my other silkies, it kinda rained a little so some of their feathers are wet lol

Whre do you live? They look like large fowl

Cute girls though, I like the crest on that last non-bearded but it's too bad she has not leg or foot feathering

I live in new York state, yeah I got 6 from tractor supply, some have feathering on their legs and feet, but some don't. Its weird lol

but I lov them all the same <3 the crested silkie is a pullet, her name is Dixie, she is the most friendliest outa 'em all.

The broody quartet (seriously, 4 hens. I have nobody actively laying) has begun hatching their hoarded eggs. These were just something to stop them from being broody, I'd rather them be raising chicks than sitting on nothing wasting mine and their time. One is out so far, but I think it was older than the rest. They should hatch in the next few days. This little guy doesn't have much in the way of middle toe feathering, so probably not a keeper, but is still seriously cute.

Yes, seriously cute!
cute!!

My first silkies looked like this and made me fall in love with the breed. Welcome to the silkie addiction thread!
My splash girl lays eggs that color :)
I also get eggs this color.

Ah, that explains a lot. My feed store/hatchery girl is the worst looking example of a Silkie (teeny crest, skimpy beard, rotten foot feathering, terrible stance, skimpy tail, crooked toes) - but she is a sweetheart and a good momma. She was the one that got me looking for more Silkies, and I found some locally.. and the rest is history (recent).

The hatcheries that supply Tractor Supply and Feed Stores go for quantity - not quality. I also agree they may be crosses, even my hatchery bird doesn't have an upright tail like your batch do. I wonder if they added in Leghorn like they sometimes do with other breeds to bring up the egg count. The all white birds make me suspicious.. Fortunately they sound like they inherited the Silkie temperament!

Your girls should make great incubators for you if you want to hatch more chicks!

Oh ok, thank you some much for explaining this to me!! I've always wondered why they didn't have most of the silkie qualities, i mean they aren't very show quality but still lol
