Silkie thread!

Here is another one of her. She doesn't have any comb of note, just a flush beak. I'm calling her "Blue" because she has the blue leg band on. LOL.

I also had a couple others I was curious about that, I think are boys....

And Purple:






Pink and Purple have the biggest combs out of all of mine so far. Their tail puff have more of an.. arc shape rather than a dome shape too, if that makes a difference.

I believe the tail puffs have to do more with their breeding and what their parents have than their sex. My boy has a lovely tail puff - he got it from his mom and dad. His sisters have them too, as well as lovely head poofs - only the males crest feathers sweep back and he has streamers, a big comb, wattles (beardless) and tree trunk legs already at 7 weeks old. No waiting to guess on that one!

The combs - yes I would guess the other two are boys from their combs. Still not sure how old they are?

If they are all the same age I would guess Blue IS a girl - Pink and Purple are boys. I still have a 50% chance of being right...

see how they're just light colored with no splashing? they're about 7 weeks.

This is exactly how mine look from my hatch of a splash hen and blue roo. I thought they were a light blue but I also read somewhere that sometimes the splashing won't show completely until they are adults. So if they hatch very little, they can get more as they grow. So that's why I'm waiting it out with these two chicks to see if they are in fact going to be splash.

Are you sure they are splash and not light blues? Expression of the blue gene can vary significantly. Both with blues and splashes.

No, I'm not sure I was told that the eggs would either be blue, black, or splash. So, I figured with the 50% hatch rate that I had, those three must have been splash. And since I had a splash once that looked like this, I just assumed they were splash. Maybe I'll send some pictures to the place I got the eggs from and see what they say?

I think I can see some splotches coming in on the bottom chick (maybe).

i have 3 chicks that run around outside one is my silkie partridge and then the other two are not silkies but back to my question thing should i be worried that she is running around outside with the other to around my yard .. she can not see very well it takes her a second to noticed her friends ditched her lol but she is really cute and has a big crest so thats why she can't see .. should i trim it or anything ??

Yes trim her, she is easy pickings for hawks or anything that wants a chicken dinner.

Read some interesting things on pasty butt. I noticed none of the hens chicks have this issue and I read that the chicks with hens eat some of the hens poo and get the good bacteria that prevents this. I think I'll go out and get some sand out of the coop and put in with my house chicks see if that helps. I also put Probios powder in their water. I'll also pick up a little plan yogurt when I go to town. Just wanted to share incase anyone else has this problem. To my amazement one of the last two eggs peeped this morning, here we go again!
