golfballs don't work on my girls .. i had a broody hen i moved and gave her some golfballs and she just looked at me like i was crazy lol ... i use them they ignore it but thats just my girls it could work for others hens but not mine .. mine will only go broody or think about it unless they a lot of eggs there or some of my hens will go broody on 2-3 eggs 

Mine really like the ping pong balls I got at the Dollar Tree (8 for $1). I had two hens hatch chicks from Orpington eggs I put under them but neither one wanted to brood the chicks. One still insists on sitting on nothing but the other one finally got off the nest. My nest boxes are large enough for 4 chickens to sleep in so there is plenty of room for two hens on one nest. I might try putting plastic tubs in the boxes to tighten up the nest area but we built them to fit on the outside of our coop and we had to use the stud spacing for each opening (the coop was originally a playhouse). I need the hens to lay because I can incubate in the incubator. The Silkies did work great for Call duck eggs so hopefully I will be able to get them to hatch more duck eggs next season. Right now I need Silkie eggs to hatch or there is no point keeping roosters.

This is the silkie rooster my daughter is taking to the county fair. Can anyone tell me if his feathers are ok?I am trying to pick the best boy and girl.

What are your other choices? His comb and wattles are too red, and likely to cause him to be DQed. His type is really lacking for a show bird. He might do fine for showmanship, but isn't a good choice for exhibition.

From what I can see, the buff is likely the best choice. She looks pretty good! Painted Feather's idea of bathing and then choosing is good. Make sure the bird you pick has 5 toes

You can not tell from outside the egg unless you incubate it for a while. If you want to see without incubaing you have to crack it open and check the white dot to see if it looks like a bullseye.

I wouldn't incubate it because the air cell looks like is off jus a little bit.

Day 21 and 2 out of 3 Silkie eggs have hatched. The 3rd didn't develop. White and a partridge.

I am so excited! My first silkie hen has 4 eggs in her nest! She has layed 4 eggs over the course of 5 days! I wonder how many more she will lay before she sits on them
