Silkie thread!

Black and Blue feathers will sun burn and turn brown. Blue is a wide range of colors, all the way from almost black to very light Blue. I would say your girl is blue with sunburn.

Thanks :) When I got her, she was this color. Do you think when she molts they wouldn't come in brownish though? Because to me, they always look this color no matter the time of year. I don't really care what "color" she is called, but I am hatching eggs out from her and my new blue catdance roo, and I am trying to figure out what color chicks to expect :) If she is indeed blue, then I should expect a mix of blue/black/splash chicks, correct?

Hello all can anyone tell me what color this chick will be I'm perplexed on what it is lol

NEED HELP....Cockeral (I think) 3 1/2 to 4 months old. Yesterday afternoon came to me holding one of its wings low, almost like he was hurt. I examined him well and couldn't find any signs of trauma or injury. Was slightly lethargic last evening when I put them to bed. This morning would not come out of the coop - not like him at all. He was sitting leaning to one side, wings slightly out.

Legs splayed out in front of him, won't/cab't stand
Wings held out to his sides
Keeps wanting to bury his head in the towel on my lap.

The worst part...
I gave him a couple of drops of nutri-drench directly until I could get advice (I'm a relatively new chicken mom)
I'm pretty sure he aspirated it!

So now on top of everything else, he has raspy breathing and seems to be having a difficult time breathing - holding his beak open, straining to pull air in.

What do I do?!?

Update.......
Sonoran Silkies to the rescue! Hoping it is heat related. I'm in New Orleans where it's been 90+ with a zillion % humidity. Have him separated in a crate with me where it's quiet and temp controlled. Have pedialyte with iron-free poly-vi-sol free choice. Breathing seems to have improved just a little. Keeping my fingers crossed on that.

Sometimes the upper respitory symptoms are a reaction to stress or injury. He hasn't jumped from a perch? Did you have a good look at the pads of his feet? Poor little guy, I watched your clip, but it was a little too brief to see much.

Just read this update, glad Sonoran had some advise for you. I lost a young one to heat stress in feb , hope your little guy picks up.

Quote: That is correct. If she is not a Blue (but she sure looks like one I have here) then you won't get B/B/S. If you only get Blue and Black - then she is a Black. I don't know if the girls get "leakage" like the boys do - or if that could be causing the brown look? She could be a Partridge based Blue - if some of her chicks look like partridge/chipmunks that may account for the brownish tint to her feathers.
