Silkie thread!

I believe my non bearded silkie rooster has a cold. What can I do to help it? It has been raining a lot here. I'm surprised he is just now getting one.
I am sorry, chickens do not get colds. They can get an inflammation in their lungs or other diseases - but it is not a cold because its not caused by the germs that cause colds. Sneezing, pussy eyes and coughing are symptoms of several other chicken diseases, and all can have different treatments. I would go over to the diseases and emergencies are and start a thread describing exactly what your birds symptoms are, I think somebody can figure out what you have and how to deal with it.

If you have mold or mildew in your coop because of the rain he could be reacting to that. It doesn't give them a cold though, just an inflammation in the lungs. I had a bird who had chronic inflammation of the lungs and crop and esophagus and the only symptom was that she wouldn't eat because it hurt.

Quote: Until you know what he has and treat it you will NOT bring him to a show! If what you have is contagious you could infect every bird there. There is sneezing and a runny nose that is a mild form of MG - your birds can survive it but they can pass it on to other birds - your whole flock would have to be closed and no birds in or out - not even eggs. Or you would have to destroy them all and disinfect and not have any birds for 15 years. Do not put yourself and others in your community through that please.

My Silkie roosters earned their keep yesterday by sounding an alarm when a hawk dove down into our yard and came up empty handed. The hens and chicks quickly ran for cover and stayed hidden until the all clear signal was given. I was so proud of my boys, even though seeing the hawk scared me. This is the first I have seen a hawk in our yard and I hope it is also the last.

About a month ago our Silkys & all the other chickens were raising quite a ruckus. Turned out a hawk was wrapped around the run to the Silky coop. Thank goodness they were inside!

I moved the two babies outside three nights ago they are six weeks and three days old its dropping down to low fiftys and upper forties, do you think they will be ok? Just the two of them in a little dog house. Should I bring them back in?

It's suppose to drop down in the forties tonight, I couldn't stand it I brought them in. I hope I'm not messing up, I know they need to get use to the cold and I wouldn't worry if there was more then just two of them. Any thoughts?

Are they huddling together and yelling loudly? If they are then they are too cold. If they won't go into the doghouse and sleep you will want to put them somewhere they can get a bit warmer. My littles have mommies to hide under, my others are older.

They were in the dog house huddled together at the back of it, not hollering. When they were settling in they were making little chirps to each other. Not a cold holler. Maybe I should have left them be. Well they're in the laundry room for tonight.
