Silkie thread!

Um, yeah - that's too rough...

Oops, breech birth.. sometimes they need help. Your hen wasn't helping it?

Ah, well I guess leave it in and see - won't hurt anything and the hen will get off in a few days to take care of the hatched one anyway.

Congrats on the Splash! If just one had to hatch - that was the one that tells you what color your birds really are

I KNOW!!! I'm so darn ecstatic about the splash!!!!!! Like super insanely so :) heheh! As for her helping it, nope. she wasn't doing anything. she was just laying on it like nothing was going on. the poor egg looked a bit squashed though. almost flattened like she was putting too much weight on it or something. IDk, it was odd.

If it doesnt hatch, I may put it in my incubator for the fun of it. who knows! But, i'm sad my daughter scrambled the chick :(

Hey guys i haven't been on here for a while but i wanted to take some pictures of my black silkie and wanted to know what you guys think of her .. i am gonna put pics in from when she was younger to now .. she didn't look as nice as she does now when she was younger .. i will take the pictures of her now this weekend sometime and see what you guys think of her

That sounds like CRD =( Don't put the Vetrx in the water, and start treating her with Tylan 50 right away, the injectable kind .25 cc twice a day by mouth. You will need a needle to get the tylan out of the bottle but you don't need to inject the bird. I would NOT bring your birds to the show since they have been sick. Wait a while until they have gone a long time without any symptoms. CRD is HIGHLY contagious and they could potentially affect every other bird there depending on what they have.

Have you had your birds npip tested? You can also get a test for MG with the npip test, it's a simple blood test. If our birds have MG you will not want to expose them to any other birds and your flock will have to be on "lockdown".

One more thing, VetRX works best if you can put it on a qtip and hold it to the roof of her mouth where the nasal slit is for a few seconds.

Okay, where do I get the Tylan? I have not got them tested.

Help! I am really desperate for silkie eggs! I recently had my first fox attack which took my entire flock except one hen. I was working on making an all silkie flock, but now I am just left with one mix breed hen. My incubator can only hold seven eggs so this will make it difficult to repopulate my flock. Of course, fullgrown silkies or silkie chicks would be ideal, but I cannot seem to find any for sale anywhere, especially since I want a variety of colors. If anyone is willing to ship eggs or chicks or chickens, please let me know! I need buff, lavender, porcelain, paint, and splash at least. Thanks to anyone who has some for sale!

Where are you located?

You can get it at tractor supply or any feed store. It is the injectible kind. If you cal your state department of agriculture they can come out and test, depending where you are you may or may not have to pay, it shouldn't be too much.

At least if you keep them home, treat them and have them tested you won't have a guilty conscience about bringing them to a show and possibly infecting other birds. If they are clear and it is just a minor thing then awesome but you don't want to be "That" person

this year all chicken swaps were frozen for MONTHS because people were knowingly bringing sick birds and unsuspecting people were buying them. Before anyone knew if tons of flocks here in NH were infected with MG
